Since the deal for the 24 inch dell is so good right now I don't know what to get. An HDTV with DVI(Computer and (Xbox 360 when it comes), or the 24 inch dell. The dell has 1920 by 1200 which will be goos for the computer and Xbox 360(is 1080i really any good or worth it for the smaller screen?) And I could get a REALLY big HDTV(Well big to compare to the dell) at a res of about 1280 by 720, or 720p. I have asked this in a thread before but what is better for both computer AND Xbox? My budget is about $1000.

It doesn't look like my X800XT Mac Edition in my G5 can do 1280 by 720. But it can do 1920 by 1080, could a 720p HDTV downsample the 1920 by 1080 to 1280 by 720?

If you want the latest and greatest devices for HDTV (e.g., Blu-Ray, PS3, HD DVD, next gen HD DVR), DVI won't be enough. Most of these new formats require HDMI (and DVI to HDMI converter won't work).

I'm interested in this too...the resolution of the 2405FPW is so much higher than, say, the 26" Dell LCD TV. But I've also heard a number of people and reviews say that TV is less satisfying on the higher res LCD monitors than it is on the lower res LCD TVs. Perhaps something like how earlier generation video games looked better on fuzzy televisions than sharp monitors, because they were graphically designed to take advantage of that level of quality?

I'm not sure. I know that HDTV signals are meant to be high-res from the start. But still I've heard quite a few people say that LCD TVs are more satisfying for TV than LCD monitors.

Heres my advice, as i was in your position a year ago. I originally bought a 23" Samsung HDTV LCD with a resolution of 1280x720 to use for my PS2, TV, and PC 2nd monitor needs. While the screen real estate is huge, you cannot put much on it due to low resolution. I have since purchased a 20.1" Dell for my primary monitor, and the HDTV is used only for watching movies and TV.

My vote goes towards the 24" Dell. It will be IMMENSELY better for PC needs, and you only give up a moderate screen real estate for the Xbox 360.

I am still debating. I mean 360 games would loo amazing on a 50 inch DLP(720p) but again the dell would be good for computer work and the high res for those 1080i games. I already have a 19 inch display but it's a tad small.
