25 dead pixels

Just wondering where I stand on this. I got a Dell 2005FPW monitor not too long ago and whilst watching a DVD on it today I've spotted a full 25 dead pixels, all along the bottom of the screen. Well they're so much dead, but display as blue or red of varying transparencies when the screen is black.

At first I thought it was dust!

Also noticed a bit of backlight bleeding too. in the bottom left and the top right. whilst not noticeable when working/playing a game. DVD's just stand out a mile with their black bars across the bottom.

Any stories of such problems and advice on what to do from here?

I agree. Dell is very liberal with their dead pixel policy, and if you aren't satisfied, I've found they will usually ship another one out ASAP.

25 dead/stuck pixels is a lot... even going by what manufacturers generally consider to be an acceptable number (about half of that).

Exchange it!

25 dead pixels is certainly in the - FREE REPLACEMENT - zone. Dell have been very good to me in regards to any monitors I've bought from them. They even exchanged a 2600W LCD for a brand new replacement because it had 1 dead pixel. (I think they have a higher standard for their TV products for some unknown reason)...

In regards to the 2005FPW. Mine has ALWAYS had the backlight bleeding problem and it's been mentioned on several reviews of the monitors. Compare it with my Apple 20" side by side and you can clearly see the difference.

I just bought an Acer 19" Widescreen monitor for my spare 360 and for £165 I'm really happy with it, it actually looks better than the Dell 2005FPW with the 360 & VGA cable. If your ever looking for another spare monitor I'd recommend it (there's not much size difference between 19&20")...

Hold on for your freeeeeeeee replacement, from the great folks at Dell.

Definitely complain and get a replacement. My 2005FPW was having issues and (shockingly) the overnighted a new monitor to me. But good luck with calling, since monitors don't come with service tags you'll be in for a struggle just to talk to somebody who knows what you're talking about.

I have a Dell 2001FP. My first one had several stuck pixels and some backlight leakage on the left side. Dell sent me a new one without much resistance. The new one has 3 stuck pixels. I'd exchange it again, but they are fairly unnoticeable and I dont want to go through the hassle. Kinda sucks paying $500 for a monitor that is defective though.

Lots of people have been complaining about leaky backlights on the 20" ACD also, so it is not necessarily a Dell issue alone.

You do know that the 20" ACD and the 2005FPW are the same panel?

LOL! It's not really "funny" as much as it is sad.


And Dell will replace LCD's with 1 dead pixel if you ask.

Does it only happen on DVD playback, or do you see it all the time?

Check to make sure, because it could be a video card issue.

Also depends where the dead pixels are located. If they are dead smack in the middle of the screen, that's cause for concern. If they are on the outer edges, perhaps less so, although you can ask for an exchange if you tell them you are a CAD designer or graphic designer and the dead pixels are absolutely unacceptable. They'll usually replace them without much fuss.
