Forgive me if this is not the right forum...

I was at my local CompUSA (Highland Park, IL) and they have all discontinued Macs on say for 25% off! I asked if it was particular to this store and a sales person told me that it was at every CompUSA this week.

At the store by me they had the Quad G5 for $2250 after the discount and a 15" PowerBook (last model) for $1100, amoung other G4 and G5 Macs. Fyi.

sounds too good to be true.

maybe it's only on the powerPC models.

Well he did say only on *discontinued* macs, so yes that just means PowerPC. I was at CompUSA in Mass. on Friday and they were in fact having the same sale on the old PowerPC models.

He did say "discontinued Macs", so probably yes - it's the PowerPC models. Even so, that's a pretty good deal if you're looking for something like that.

If it's true.

Edit: Shouldn't have looked at the website ;) Good to see we've had some confirmation.

It's definitely true. A friend of mine picked up a discontinued G4 Mac mini for only $299 a CompUSA here just last week. It's a great deal if your local CompUSA store has any discontinued Macs still remaining in stock.

wow, that almost makes getting a old mini worth it, haha

Hey, all my friend needed was a basic system. You certainly can't find anything else better out there for that low of a price. Hell, it costs $200 just to buy Tiger & iLife '06 alone, so to get a system with those included for $299 sounds good to me. :)

CompUSA has had some really good deals on Macs over the past couple of weeks. A powerbook G4 15" for $1100. That's a really good deal.

haha - i wasn't being sarcastic. it's definitely a good deal - it really does almost make it worth it.. especially for someone that doesn't need anything too powerful.

Darnit! My Compusa is going out of business. So, all Macs are 10% off. Too bad they're not taking part in the national 25% off. I'd buy a Mac Mini for $299 in a heartbeat. Honest to God.

So is mine. :(

The Compusa in my town went out of business a few years ago (before I had a Mac, actually). So I've been without a local place that has Mac software and Hardware for a LONG time.

Even online the Compusa.com store has the 1.42 Ghz G4 mini at $349.

and I wonder if that's really the 1.5 G4 with the 64 VRAM. If so, that's a really tempting offer. Isn't there supposed to be a way to tell if a mini is one of the silent updates? By the serial number or something?

I would rather buy a Refurb direct from Apple than anything new at CompUSA.

Comp's open box demos take a beating.

Be careful that anything you buy is absolutely sealed new in box.

Also watch those serial numbers for bad batches.

The Quad is that cheap? It isnt discontinued.

Yes it is (more or less)....they're just dumping remaining units as far as I know.

and along with this, in So Cal, theres a compusa in the chino spectrum whose going out of buisness i assume, they have this huge clearance sale, and their computers are at least 10% off, even the Macs are marked off...but they are still expensive..
