Last time the M2 Pros hit, the M1 Pros were discounted heavily at Costco ($1500 for the 16" MBP). I'm waiting for the M3 Pro simply so I can grab an M2 Pro on the cheap. Can anyone justify the performance increase for an extra $1,000 or would you simply get the previous gen model at a heavy discount?

Honestly - no-one can answer this yet because Apple hasn't released the specs. M1Pro to M2Pro was 20-30% bump for most things, so let's see if we get a similar 20-30% or something more dramatic. Only then can we address the question of whether or not it's worth spending $1,000.

I am waiting to get a cheaper refurb M1 pro ;)
Refurbished products are good. The problems have been found and corrected. The prices don't seem to be as good, but they used to send out a scratched case where they supposedly don't do that any longer.

This was not when M2 was released. they were selling both side by side and wanted to get rid of M1 inventory that's why the sale.

I may want something with more ram, and if an m1/m2 model can do it in a decent price I may choose that, as the increase in computing speed is not as important to me for certain things as more ram. But depends on how much the discount is gonna be.

Given how Apple absolutely destroyed Intel during this event, you should be able to pickup some insanely affordable portable heating units/laptops in the coming weeks.

How did it do that? Their most standard professional models, the M3 pros, are at the exact same level as the M2 pros in terms of computing power, if not worse.
