250gb 4200rpm Hdd?

Does anyone have any idea what brand the optional 250GB HDD drive is? I want to see if I can find some kind of review, but the only 250GB laptop drives that I can find are 5400RPM.

Any help would be appreciated.

I find it hard to believe that, with all of the tech geniuses on this site, no one can name a few 250GB, 4200 RPM, 2.5" hard drives.

Come on guys/girls, help a guys out.

Well in my personal experience a lot of Apple's laptop drives have been Western digitals. However, Apple does not appear to be married to any specific drive company as I have also known them use a lot of Hitachi's also in their portable line up. So it is not unheard of for them to use the western digital drive outlined in the original link.

I understand that point. My issue is that I have looked at each manufacturer's website and none of them have a 250GB, 4200 RPM drive. None of them. Either I am missing something, or Apple is using something that is unknown/unavailable to the public.

No you see why I am confused. I am starting to wonder if the specs on the Apple site are incorrect. Might be pleasantly surprised if it does turn out to be a 5400rpm drive.

But, in all probability, it's a 4200 RPM.

There's this one - Fujitsu's MHX2300BT:

It seems to be available (or on the cusp of available) in 300GB also. It seems to be very new, but in production, and available to OEMs (references to it surfaced in December with an "early 2007" availability).

I only found one website advertising it as "coming soon:"

But it is 12.5mm... does that fit in the 17"-er? I was under the impression that they required 9.5'ers. It seems to be the only solid contender out there. Suggesting it's either a gaffe, something unusual going on in terms of downclocking the drive's spin speed (I've never heard of that?), or it's something from Fujitsu.

Looks lilke we have a winner. Interesting that it is a 12.5mm drive. Looks like the 17" will have some excellent aftermarket upgrades in the future if you can place both 9mm and 12.5mm drives in there.

Answer is Apple uses many hard drive manufactureres... Toshiba, Fujitsu, Seagate, Western Digital mainly in laptops. And Apple often uses products from companies that are unannounced or have no specs.

you may never know what they're using til people start reporting it.
