This old question, but I’m still unsure... I get by with 64 gb on my iPhone X but with iCloud optimisation turned on. I have about 22 gb to spare. Will 256 be ok on a new iPP? I will possibly put films on it when I travel, and will have a lot of music scores on it.

I was planning to go 256, but I looked at the overall cost of the device and that it’s replacing both my iPad Air 2 and my 11” MBA, and started to worry I’d be kicking myself down the road if I didn’t spend the extra now.

I have 256GB on my phone and 256GB on my iPad. I use more storage on my iPad because the bigger screen means I store more games, movies etc on it than I do on my phone. I’m still nowhere near maxing it out, though. It really does come down to your personal usage, so it’s a difficult one to answer.

Very stingy of Apple to keep the base storage at 64GB, in my opinion. It’s almost 2019.

Whether or not 256GB will be sufficient for you is a subjective call that only you can make.

If you are the type of person that needs to have their entire music library with them and have uncompressed audio files then if you have a decent sized music library, 256GB won't be enough. Same goes for movies. I know people who put 4K videos on their tablets that takes up unnecessary space (10GB+ per movie) if it is only going to be viewed on the device.

I encode my videos using Handbrake and the resulting file sizes for a 90 minute movie average between 700MB-1GB. I use smart playlists in iTunes to selectively sync a portion of my music library (which is so large it wouldn't fit on the 1TB iPad Pro).

Well I already have a 2018 MBP with 1tb SSD.

If you were buying now with the hindsight you now have what storage would you go for?

256GB, because 64GB isn’t enough. Which Apple knows fine well.

I can’t see myself ever using 512GB on an iOS device, but then I don’t shoot much 4K.

If it was between getting 512 or getting cellular (so either having 512 WiFi or 256 cellular) what would you say?

Tough choice but 256GB cellular for me. Somewhat annoying to manage content more frequently but it's in the "good enough" range for me.

I decided to go for both... My use case will probably change over the next few years and I want the headroom that 512gb will provide. Relatively speaking it’s only an extra £200.
