Yep that's too thick for the MBA but for the MB and MBP it would work. I'd venture to guess that in 5 years tops we will go SSD only.

ha, why is everyone focused on the thickness? it's a 2.5 inch drive! the extra 4.9mm is nothing compared to the extra .7 inch.

Well, it doesn't really matter, even if it were 1.8" you couldn't fit it inside because it is too thick :p

On a more serious note though, the 9.5mm is interesting because that means that it would fit into the MB or MBP.

At this rate how long is it before we have 1TB SSD Drives? I would think less than 5 years, by then cost will be equivalent to HDD.

I agree that we are headed to an SSD only future.

Notice the "Thats too thick for the MBA" part and the "Mac Forums > Apple Hardware > Notebooks > MacBook Air" part.

What are you talking about? I was saying of course it's too thick for the Air, but more importantly it's not even a 1.8" drive. There are several 1.8" drives that were 8mm instead of the required 5mm, but this one fails on all fronts as it's a 2.5" drive.

If I recall correctly, a 1.8in version is supposed to follow the 2.5in. I dont know how thick it will be though.
