If you want 256GB storage, the 6 core comes with that as standard for £1,099. To add 128GB to the base i3 makes that £979. So I'm thinking that the i5 6 core may be worth it for an extra 12%?
Now that we have seen it is harder to upgrade the RAM, I'm going to order 16GB at build so the i5 is favourite now. The only last sticking point is noise. I'd prefer really quiet and so far the i3 is ticking that box. Decisions, decisions.

Early reports are showing the fan is overkill on the 3 and underkill on the 7 (unless you disable turbo). There are fewer tests on the 5 but it should be goldilocks in the middle.
