2600 Video and gaming

I'm not a big gamer... (used to be, but a 4 year old, family, and a life has taken priority...)

However, I may get into something like World of Warcraft and/or some other games once I pickup the iMac.

Will the 2600 suffice for a recreational gamer as compared to a serious gamer?
Things like WOW, will they be able to run at full resolution, etc and be playable?

If you can afford the base 24" iMac model then I strongly suggest the BTO to upgrade to the 8800 series.

I'll second that. If you can't, the 2600 is fine for WoW, and should be able to run most games at full resolution released in the next year.

I'm in a similar situation. Not a big gamer, but the kids do like to play the sims, ms flight simulator, older jedi knight games. I'm looking at refurb 24" vs new 24" with the NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GS. Difference in price is going to come to about $600, that seems like way to much of a difference in price for casual gaming. I realize there are other differences too, but the refurb 24" will be more than fine for everything else I do. On the other hand, if the refurb won't play the games, than that will drive me crazy.

My son plays Crysis on his 20" 2.4 iMac under XP SP2. This has got to be one of the most demanding games at the moment. It plays on full res with most settings on medium. No AA/AF. Frame rate is very playable but it does stutter a little under loads of action (not enough to ruin game enjoyment).

I posted about this before but for the sake of not being an ass...

I am a casual gamer too and this was of concern to me. I did some research and there are plenty of videos on Youtube showing people playing World of Warcraft, Call of Duty 4, Crysis, etc.

Personally...I went with the 20" 2.4 machine and the last couple of nights I have been wasting terrorists in Rainbow 6 Vegas with much pleasure.

I think you would be fine and as far as Flight Sims have you checked out X-Plane? I downloaded the demo...pretty cool, if I could just figure out how to land I would be in great shape.
