I know this is just wishful thinking, but does anyone think there is a chance of a quiet update to to gpus in the imacs? Perhaps at the top end?

Not entirely impossible, but almost certainly not.

The only reason for sliver of hope would be if you remember Fall 2005, they had isight iMac G5, and then 2-3 months later in January, the intel iMac.

I suppose if Apple was about to adopt Blu-ray or something and was putting it on all notebooks, they could for example bump the iMacs or something.

However, again. Something like the 2005-2006 is likely not to happen again.

It is much more likely to be related to the rumored Apple Tablet than the iMac, or it could be something else, but doubtful they'd update the iMac and I would hate them if they did !!

Intel is launching their new mobile i3-i5-i7 chips on January 3rd... There's a possibility that the 21.5" might get the i3 or i5. They offer a significant boost in clock speeds and significant lowered power consumption (things that Apple love very much). They are likely to show up in Macbook Pros obviously. Actually whatever happens on January is very likely to be a Macbook event of sorts.

Oh yeah, let's hope they have a Rev 1.5 2009 iMac by then (fix the gpu / display problems). No this isn't a joke, it would be a big welcoming change for me.

Or it could be about the Mac Pros.. Its all speculation till Jan 26th.

My problem is, that date is my sisters birthday.. Do I go there or stay in for the news???

That's why you have an iPhone right? I just check Twitter.

Oh and Mac Pros of course (though I am not terribly excited for it unless the price comes down for consumers).

Well as far as processors go, it is happening again. But we have to remember that back then Apple went with a whole new kind of processor.

I think that the lower end may get a refresh, because the 27's already run the i5's and i7's and will only get a speed bump.

The only other time since the Core 2 Duo were released a whole new type of processor is coming out is on Jan 7. Intel's latest-generation micro-architecture "nehalem" is radically different than the Core2 micro-architecture. If not late Jan, it will not be too much after that.

Their competition will be using the the "nehalem' micro-architecture. Apple will not be that far behind. The new Core 2 duo quads are also fairly new with a 45W version.
