Hi Everyone,
I have Apple iMac Core i7 3.4 2 (Mid-2011) that has been laying around. I would like to upgrade it in order to do a couple potential things.
1. be able to stream music and shows, ie modern web browsing
2. be able to run some basic games like Minecraft, TF2, WOW, The Forest, etc.
I am a pretty skilled hardware technician so opening this up does not scare me, I have done it many times.
OS: I plan on running windows 11 primarily, with the attack plan of installing 7, upgrading to 10, and then 11. Other than TPM are there any foreseeable issues?
Do I need to have a 2nd drive running High Sierra or will the machine be fine just running Windows 24/7
CPU: Is there anything better I can put in it?
GPU: I would like to upgrade the GPU but I am unsure what the options are. It would be great if I could keep boot screen but not required I guess if I am only running windows.
Storage: I would Ideally actually like to install 2 SSDs. a 1TB for windows with the spare SATA and replace the HDD with a small SSD for macOS/Linux. The only problem is I remember constantly having issues with the fans on these models. Is there a hardware workaround on this? Id like to never have to mess with the fans all the time.
