27" 2015 iMac reverts to internal speakers after waking...

I use the headphone jack for my external speakers, and they work well...until the iMac wakes up ...then it reverts to the internal speakers, and the only way I've found to get the headphone jack to recognize my external speakers is to restart the computer...which is not ideal...



anyone hear of this before?? Weird! Any help is appreciated



late-2015 27" i5, 8GB RAM 2TB HDD, Catalina...
