I have a MiniDP 27” Cinema Display that I use with my MBP and it recently starting not working. When I first connect the MBP, it will generally work, but after closing the lid, the Cinema Display goes black. If I disconnect/reconnect the MiniDP, the MBP screen flashes as it sees the condition, but the Cinema display remains black. If I disconnect the power from the display and try again in an hour or so, the same thing happens. I’ve also now noticed a blue line running down the right edge of the monitor on black screens.

Probably the logic board/power supply. I have the 27-inch ACD with issue as well, brought it to Apple years ago and the Genius wasn't willing to repair it for me.

How -old- is this display?

If it's more than 6 years, I don't believe Apple will repair it any more.

Might be time to start thinking, "replacement".

Yep, the early LED displays all seem to suffer from bad PSU or logic boards. I've had two of the 24" models die on me in the exact same way.

Meanwhile, all my old matte cinema displays still work flawlessly.

It’s orettt old since it’s the MiniDisplayport version...has anybody had luck replacing the logic board?

I took it apart and the logic board looks fine. All voltages are in line as well.

It’ll work the first couple times if I have it disconnected from power for a while, but stops after closing the lid/connecting the DP cable multiple times

yep, sounds like the same issue I had. My voltages were good too. I've heard some say it may be a few bad resistors on the logic board that make the display think there's no signal coming in, so even if the power lines are all good it just doesn't acknowledge anything being present.

Can you still see an image behind the glass? Mine got in the habit of killing the backlight, even though it was still sending a signal and I could see the pixels if I got a flashlight angled just right.

Nope, I get no backlight and no faint image when shining a flashlight either. The technician guide says to replace the LCD in that situation, but it doesn’t seem like the LCD would cause this issue over the PCB/Logic board

Is it -really- worth spending any more money on?
(money that could go into something new...)

I guess you know Fisherrman is right; if you need a reliable monitor, a quick google gets me lots of 27" choices - including this gem at BH for $179. Sure you don't get the camera (lousy but integrated) and the speakers, but you'll have a monitor again.

Are you that attached to the Cinema Display?

**EDIT - scratch that monitor suggestion. It was 1920x1080 not 2560x1440.

I really only use it around 25% of the time, hence why I figured if a new logic fixed it for $65 it was worth it. I wouldn’t buy an entire new monitor

Stupid question, but you have the MagSafe plugged into the laptop, correct? The display won't switch to the monitor when closing the Macbook unless the MagSafe is connected.
