Ok I am new on here & couldn't find an answer or another thread discussing this. Please move it to the right Forum if I have placed it in the wrong one, Thanks.
Ok so I am working in Adobe CS4 (Photoshop) & I am seeing grid boxes when I am zoomed at 600% all the way up to 3200%. I have looked at identical files in CS4 on a Mac G-5 & they don't do this. Below you will see a snap shot of what I see & the I-Mac info... Does anyone know if this is something that can be turned off?? I looked in preferences in CS4 but, saw nothing to turn it off. Thanks in advance, Jason.

I'm not in front of my pc right now, so I can't double check this stuff, but I am pretty sure it's an option. It come along with GPU acceleration, so if your older machines didn't have a supported card, that could be why it wasn't displaying.

Go into the prefs and find the GPU settings. Should be under performance or something. There should be a little button to access more gpu settings, and there might be a preference in there. Or it could be in the General section. I'm not sure. But it is definitely an option.

Hope that helps (sorry for the non-specificity)

(Basically, I'm saying double-check those preference panes. It may also be a tool option for the magnifying glass)

aah Found it

OK I found it here... I changed the setting but, had to restart CS4 for it to take affect. Now I need to look up whether it helps or hinders with it on or off. Thanks

I'm fairly certain it's an aesthetic option. Leave it on if you like it, off if you don't. Shouldn't affect performance in any meaningful way.

Performance

OK so after reading up on the GPU option... it appears that if you turn it off then some of the processing that the GPU was performing is now put on the CPUs shoulders hence by leaving it on there are performance advantages. Thanks for the input everyone. Jason

The effect you're talking of is actually an inbuilt feature of Adobe Photoshop CS4 - it's supposed to make working at the pixel level easier.
