Which is a more powerful machine? The 3.33GHz 27" iMac Core 2 Duo, or the 2.66GHz 27" iMac i5 Quad Core?

Surely it depends what you want too do? and what programs you want to run? Can a program benefit from quad cores.

Not really. If you work with single thread applications, the i5 turbo boost takes it up to 2.8ghz. Since clock-for-clock the i series is significantly faster than the Core series, the i5 is faster in pretty much every event.

Turbo Boost takes it up to 3.2GHz for i5 and 3.46GHz for i7....

Quad is faster anyway, you can't beat the fact.
