27" iMac: ALL The Possible Reported Problems You Should Check For When Purchasing

Hey guys,

Currently I've only heard of 1 major flaw in "some" iMac's which is the screen issue with the yellow areas (thread).

I am planning on buying a 27" iMac soon and would really really appreciate if those of you who own a 27" iMac or those of you who have heard of certain defects in the 27" iMac to list some of the things someone should check for after they have purchased a new 27" iMac.

That way we know if we need to return it or not.

I"m keeping a list like that for myself, to check against when I get my i7. Here's my list, based on posts here:

1)Stuck/Dead pixels
2)Pixellated screen
3)Yellow smudge at the bottom of the screen
4)Flickering screen, with brief blackouts
5)System wide slowdown, especially running flash
6)Airport problems
7)High pitch whine from screen at max brightness after 30 minutes; also after turning down brightness by 30%
8)Noisy HDD - clicking or whirring
9)LED backlight bleeding through in corners when screen is dark/black
10)Bad USB ports
11)iMac as external monitor function not working
12)Intermittent hiss from external speakers hooked up
13)Slow boot up
14)Frequent beachballs, despite not many programs running
15)Dust or fingerprints trapped behind the monitor glass

Now, mind you, some of these issues are reported just by a couple of posters, so those may be rare.

Wow that's a lot to check . I think I'm just going to wait till after Christmas/New Years and check back here to see if people are still reporting a lot of defected systems.

Why start a new thread when there is already one exactly like this one?

Something else to consider: while you pull out your microscope and worry yourself to death, most everyone else will be enjoying their new machine. If there's something obviously wrong with it, then by all means return it. If there's nothing wrong, why spend an inordinate amount of time digging for something?

Hmm I guess we didn't know there was one already out there exactly with the same title and body message

Secondly, it's nothing wrong with doing research and asking what to check for when you are going to spend over 2 grand for a component. I don't feel like going back and forth to my apple store/calling apple to have the item replaced, so best to just be patient.

So enjoy your 27" iMac, and I'll enjoy mine when the majority problems reported have calmed down a bit.

Thanks, that's a lot better than a smart comment, as most people want a straight answer from the get go, and not have to read a thread that may have 300 post, and the answer you are looking for is in the middle of the thread somewhere , therefore bypassing the little MRoogle search engine.
