Three years ago, when I got my first ever Mac (a 24" iMac), I posted this topic. At the time there was so much talk of bad screens and freezing issues that I was understandably worried. Thankfully, my machine had a really nice screen that I was happy with and people in the topic agreed that there was nothing wrong with it. It also experienced no freezing issues. It was perfect and I've enjoyed using it ever since.

Today a new 27" replacement is out for delivery. It's a BTO model with the i7 and a 2TB HDD. I've also bought some RAM to add to it when it arrives which will bring the total up to 8GB. When it gets here I'll be testing it for the display issues which are repeatedly reported about this model. I'll also hope for a quiet HDD. I'll be sure to put some photos up for all to see.

Although with my first iMac I assured myself that problems reported on forums are often magnified, I haven't had a perfect record with Apple products. I had a unibody MacBook not long ago, and sure enough the first model came with the much discussed 'wonky keys'. I sent it back for a replacement and the second one had the dreaded 'wonky battery case'. However, the battery case I managed to force back into shape and all was well!

Just like last time, I'll refrain from properly using the machine until my Birthday (in 2 days time). I've saved up for the machine and just need a couple of hundred extra which I should receive on my Birthday. Unlike last time though, I don't have time to replace this machine in time for my Birthday if it's faulty. Therefore, I'm trying to stay as positive as I can about it having a gorgeous fault free screen!

Wish me luck and I'll let you all know how it goes!

I bought my first Mac last week a 21.5" 3.2GHz i3. After reading the posts about dog whistling, yellow screens etc. I was pretty worried. However after booting up the screen was perfect with no yellow tinge and no whistling when I adjust the brightness.

Good luck with yours.

I'm so happy - to me the iMac seems to be perfect :D

Here she is:

I brought up the famous MacRumors screen test and it looked like this:

There's nothing to complain about there for me - I couldn't be happier! Also, I've dimmed the screen and there's no buzzing. Whilst I haven't done much apart from open Safari, it seems very quiet too so no obvious loud HDD issues to report either!

It's now all packed away for Thursday - but I can't wait to use it :D

could you post a link to the screen test background/thingy you used as i would like to use it to test a screen.
thanks

I will only respect you if you take the highly expensive iMac off of the silly flowery pad that its on.
haha the iMac wont scratch the table

That's only because it was in the kitchen when it was first plugged in... it's sat on my desk upstairs now :)

Awesome! Congrats on your new purchase!
