Well today I called Apple support and discussed the fact my i7 had flickering and nano-second blackout problems. I also had one case where the screen went berserk and the dock was at the top of the screen and had grey garbage in the middle as well as other gibberish at the bottom of the screen. The only way I could get it back from this was to use the power button and reboot!
He encouraged me to send the machine back for an exchange so the engineers could study the problem on my computer. I said that I was afraid to do that for a couple of reasons, mostly because I was afraid that the new one could arrive with some of the other issues discussed here in these forums. (My HD is quiet and no cracks, dead pixels or yellow tinge, etc.)
I also didn't want to lose all the stuff I updated and changed since I migrated my data to it. (I don't have away to back up the data on this one.)
So, we discussed alternatives. He mentioned that Apple had found the reason for the screen flickers and that it was a hardware problem, that could be cured with replacing various parts. (I tried to get him to name the parts; however, he didn't name them.)
So, I have an appointment with the local Genius Bar and will be taking the i7 in tomorrow afternoon for a consult and repair(s) at their shop. The shop is only 11.6 miles from my home. So, I'll have to pack this 38 pound ungainly monster up and get it to the shop, which is in a Mall. It might take 5 business days before I see it again!
