The question is for all recent 27" imac buyers. Were the issues really solved in the recent imacs, or did you still encounter those infamous problems?

Depends on what you mean by infamous problems.

I bought my 27" Quad i5 last week and I have to send it back to Apple because the system does not find an Airport card in it.

This is the first time that I have to use Apple Care, and I already feel how poor Apple's service is compared to Dell's business service: They do not fix the problem at my house. They're going to pick it up and bring it back god-knows-when. Hello? Dell sells me ON SITE warranty for less money than what Apple Care costs.

That's the part that annoys me: The (little) service around it, not the machine itself.

Other than that, the 27" iMac is an amazing machine, especially at its price. But if you're going to buy one, buy the one that you see in the shop - and make a full system check before you let them put it in the box.

Thanks.

These things happen all the time, i was referring to the screen issues rather than the actual computer hardware.

You're comparing business class support to a consumer class product? Doesnt really work.

Applecare is the best warranty available to consumers. If you dont believe it then buy your mac at a Best Buy and get geek squad.

I got mine back when it originally came out. I never had any of those weird tint problems or a broken screen.

The 2 things I did have were an extremely LOUD hard drive and Optical Drive.

They sent out a brand new unit because I couldn't be without mine for school purposes.

This unit I've had for a couple months now has been a lot quieter.

Winni,

Depends! If you do you have Apple Care they will depending upon what it is fix it there at your house. They used to say if you lived so close within a few mile radius you'd have to take it in but they were prepared to fix mine right here at home. But I haven't paid for mine yet. Which I will because I know how good of a service it is.

I bought a 27" i5 last Monday and it is in great working order.
Bought at an Apple store, as per appleserialnumberinfo..turns out it was built in the USA, week 7 of this year.
Not sure if that means anything, as I was hoping for a later week, but the computer itself is a keeper.

I finally gave in and ordered an I7 from the refurb store. In the 24 years I've been using Macs I've never purchased Applecare and never had any issues. My Macs have all been desktops.

However, I will be buying Applecare for this iMac but I wanted to see if it has any issues first. My reasoning is if I have to end up doing the exchange merry-go-round, or God forbid, get a refund, than I wouldn't want to have spent $150 on Applecare for a Mac I no longer have (if I had to get a refund).

So my my question is would I be treated the same without Applecare if I'm forced to get an exchange, screen replacement, etc...? I live pretty close to an Apple Store so would I be eligible for onsite service?

I feel relatively confident the I7 will be ok but I just want to make sure I'm covered if it's not. Any help would be appreciated. :)

It'll be fine - you're automatically covered, applecare is just a three year extension of something you get for free for the first year.

If you had bought applecare with the mac, you would have been eligible for a full refund on that if your product had been found faulty within the first 14 days and you decided to return it. You might even get a discount for buying it with a computer (like I did).

Thanks for the response.

That's good to know. If the iMac ends up being ok I'll buy Applecare from Amazon where it's about $25 cheaper. Hopefully I'll never need it. :)

Isn't there issues when you do this without the box? I always hear people say "make sure it's the actual boxed Applecare before buying on ebay".

Im only concerned about the display issues. Is this fixed with BRAND NEW units not recons?

no there is not issues. normally they are scholastic ones being resold on ebay and such there is no box. i wouldn't buy my imac without the cool box. but applecare who cares! type in the serial and you're good to go.
