I had a 27 inch imac with 8 gb ram 2009 2.8 i7 model
I recently got a 2010 imac 2.97 with 4 gigs.

is the ram the same? Can i swap the ram?
From my 2009 imac i7 to my 2010 i7?

are they the same ?"

You should be able to. The memory controller should downclock the 1333 to 1066.

wouldnt doing that be counter productive? the new memory is faster correct?

So should i buy memory like the new imac, or use it from my old one. Apple seems to charge 200.00 for the extra 4 gigs.

You can buy a 4gig pack for as little as 70-80. I advise you go that route if you absolutely must have the same speed memory, otherwise just use the memory from your older iMac.

If you have both iMacs available right now, it doesn't hurt at all to try and putting the extra ram in from your older iMac.
