Anything I try to burn in Toast fails whether it is a CD or DVD. I get an "Interface error 5: the connection is unstable" every time!

This just makes a coaster out of the disc.

I have a 27" iMac running 10.6.2

Here is the info on my disc drive:

HL-DT-ST DVDRW GA11N:

Model: HL-DT-ST DVDRW GA11N
Revision: KA18
Serial Number: KZ499652238
Native Command Queuing: No
Detachable Drive: No
Power Off: No
Async Notification: Yes

So far the drive works in Disk Utility and Burn. Roxio Toast (versions 9 and 10) both don't work

Anyone else having these issues?

It's weird how there is no mention of this problem on Macrumors, yet it is all over Apple Discussion boards...

It is a known issue. I was actually going to post a fix to the solution that I found for myself.

CDs and DVDs burn just fine using other programs like Disk Utility, iTunes, & Burn.

The fix I found that seems to be working so far and I am on my 4th DVD right now in a row without an issue....

When it comes to the burn speed manually select the speed instead of Best.

I am also using 10.0.6 right now and the issue has been present since 10.0.5

TO NOTE: I also have the same exact Firmware Revision as you.

I have tried this and I still get coasters.

If it's just a problem with Roxio, then they need to step up to the plate!

I suspect that it might be a compatibility issue between Toast and the LG GA11N drive in your iMac because I've had no issues at all burning discs with the Optiarc AD-5680H drive in my i7. That's just me though.

I have a 2008 imac 24"...
The drive is a matshita dvd-r uj-875 and its almost impossible to burn a cd at the moment... I recently upgraded to toast 10.0.6 and it is worse than 10.0.5..
Is it my cd drive or is it toast?

These issues have come and gone with Toast for years. Make sure you have the latest version. They have had several updates recently. I have owned Toast since version 1 but Burn fulfills almost all of my burning needs.

I replaced 3 superdrives in my old iMac, I copied a lot of DVDs from Netflix in order to have them on hand.

It seems like Apple has gone with superdrives that are designed to meet an average users actual utilization of the superdrive.

I know some people who only use the drives once or twice the entire time they have the computer to burn a disc.

Same Problem

Hi,

I'm having the same problem with toast regardless of the speed I burn at. I've got a 27" iMac OS X 10.6.2 - has anyone heard of any fixes for this problem? should i just abandon toast and use another app?

Thanks,

I've gone over to Dragon Burn, as I 've not had any luck at all with any of the solutions mentioned in any of the threads... Interesting to see that it is happening on a newer firmware version then mine.. (All hope is now lost :) )..

Issue with Roxio Toast 7 and iMac 27" (10.6.2)

I'm having a similar issue: Toast 7 Titanium launches when I put a blank CD in the drive but the system displays an error message when I hit the 'burn' button. (Could not record the disc because of a Mac OS Error - result code -13780)
Wondered whether Toast 7 isn't compatible with Intel Macs running Snow Leopard.

I am using Toast Titanium 10 on 4 different systems and have had no burn errors on any of them. I am currently using an Optiarc AD-5680H on a 27" iMac i5, Matshita UJ-85J on a MacBook Pro, a HL-DT-ST GA11N on a 24" early 2009 iMac, and a Pioneer DVRTS08 on an early 2009 Mac Mini. The only coasters I have ever burned have been the result of using cheap DL DVD media. I have never burned a coaster using quality media of any kind.

I have the same drive as you on my 27" iMac and the only difference is that my Revision is at KA19. I use Toast Titanium 10 without any problems.
