This just started happening to my mac today. I shut it down and started it up again and that fixed the problem.
Hope that settled it but will see. I think I had noticed threads about this problem before. If the problem continues you might want to look for them or better yet call Apple.

Good luck.

Mine just started doing this a couple of days ago. I also had issues this week with messages that there wasn't enough ram to start a second application; strange, I've run those two and three or four more on this computer since I got it in December. I hope there is a simple answer, but I'm starting to get a bad feeling about this.

Mine is the same, not sleeping unless doing it manually. I did the SMC reset and still nothing. I made sure that all external devices were unplugged as well just to be sure that wasn't preventing it.

Anyways, I thought of a "clean" re-install as I've only had mine about 2 weeks now so I don't have much on it yet.

I'll have to try the re-install, not just because of the sleep mode but I am sure it (might) make it better. At least in my mind. :)

I've been getting this for sometime too. I just assume something is running in the BG that wakes it up. Anyone have any sort of diagnostic that we can run ?

I had this for awhile to, checked energy settings and saw their is a option to wake on Network access, I turned it off and it hasn't been waking again.

So for those with iMacs with sleeping disorder go into your energy settings anc click off wake on network access then let me know if that didn't help because it sure did with me.

Ooo thanks! will try this! could be the case since I'm running on router (almost permanently connected)

Did it help at all? mines yet to wake.

unfortunately, not. I have turn it off yesterday and I put my imac to sleep before I went out. I got home about 6hrs to find out that my imac have woken up by itself. hmm strange still.

My 27" iMac will NOT stay in sleep mode. I click sleep, it goes into sleep, then like 3 seconds later it wakes again all by itself. I have no other apps running.

Anyone else have this issue?

I'm puzzled! Here is a youtube video of the problem on my computer:

Was having this problem and my day old 27" iMac was also refusing to go to sleep. After much tearing of hair and soul searching I found 2 widgets on the dashboard that were running even when the dashboard wasn't. I disabled both widgets and haven't had a problem since.

27" iMac Quad 10.6.5 won't sleep

i took the advise of one of the users and unchecked in system prefs energy saver "Wake for network access." it didn't work until i locked it (Click the lock to make changes). so, far, it has slept all of yesterday afternoon and all night.
the only thing that has worked (for me) so far.
