27 inch iMac as TV replacement

Hi

I'm Planing on geting a mew 27 inch iMac because to complement my current MacBook Air. And because it has a bigger screen then the TV that I currently have in my bedroom I want to be able to use it instead. The features that I want to have is to have cable TV Tuner, Play Blu-ray movies and to play my Wii. So far I've seen people recommend the EyeTv products and the Kanex WD. so far I only have the Wii with a the component video cable.

What I'm looking for is a set of products that is not to expensive and that use to completely replace the need off a TV with an iMac. some use full information is that I plan on installing linux on the iMac and that through my university I have access to widows seven for free. But I would only use windows if it offers a significant reduction in price then a display port, and would much rather use mac of linux.

Hi,

So far the only devices i've seen for doing this have not had pleasant results. Primarily for video game playing, there is too much of a delay between what is being displayed and what is actually happening in the game(s).

Everything else is easy, though it's so much easier to just deal in digital video files. (which, I might add, doesn't always have to be an unprofessional + illegal activity). It's nice having things organized and being able to control them with the apple remote.


Please post if you find a worthy solution, i'd be curious to see.
I bought my iMac as a replacement to all those kinds of things when living abroad but eventually just bought an HDTV for the video game portion.

For the Wii you will want a direct input like the Kanex, unfortunately I don't think the Wii supports 720p in all modes.

Try the Altona scaler - about $250. http://www.atlona.com/ATLONA-HDMI-MINI-DISPLAYPORT-TO-MINI-DISPLAYPORT-SCALER-AND-SWITCHER.html This takes any HDMI source and scales it to the iMac.


You probably would be better off getting a Mac mini or Mac Book Pro and hooking that up to a 27-32" 1080P TV or a Dell Dell U2711 monitor that supports multiple inputs (DisplayPort, HDMI, component, and composite).
