One can but dream.

I’d like to see the Smart Keyboard for that one though!

27" is far too big for a lot of surfaces to be a realistic drawing area. The most I could see is 17" which would fit well on tables and desks, while still giving a large display.

Do remember that iPads are 4:3, so the 27" iPad would be 12.3% larger than the iMac 27".

Already suggested this in other threads although I was satisfied with 24 inch:) Considering the way iPadOS is taking, I think it is a matter of time before we see a desktop iPad. Would make lot of sense actually. Before we see 24+ inch, iPadOS will need MacOS window capabilities. Until then, I can see a doubling of 12.9 just like the 12.9 was nearly a doubling of 9.7.

Erm. That’s not a mobile device at that size. One of the major use case for the iPad is mobility. I don’t think this will happen.
At the moment the iPad is a mobile device but as I said, iPadOS is getting more capable and iPad can move into other use cases. The 12.9 is considered a desktop device.

I would consider a 2000 USD large desktop iPad instead of an iMac for home use.

Wouldn’t be designed as a mobile device. It would be a variation on the Surface Studio.

It’s years and years away, but I can see it happening. The addition of full mouse support and trackpads are baby steps in this direction.

At that point it won’t really be in the same category though. I’ve played around with the Microsoft surface table before and as much of a novel idea it is, I didn’t see any practical use of it. Maybe if Apple gets into that type of devices they may be able to implement it in a way that it becomes mainstream. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ who knows.

find it difficult to believe with iPad being iOS based and most apps are basically crippled compared to the desktop versions.

It would be useful not as a general-purpose computer, but for specific applications where you'd need a big screen but limited compute ability. For example, digital signage, interactive mall maps, videoconference system.

How about a 27” iPad 5K 100-240V AC for the desktop as a cheaper option than an 27” iMac? That would be good enough for my needs.
We had one to test a few years back... or something just like it.
Something like this:

I cannot remember the brand of the one we got to play with.

Consider items like the Cintiq 24" and others. Many are moving into fairly large and now self contained direct screen action computer/tablets.

I’m sure people have a use case and it usually involves a Pencil. But for the most part iPad apps are usually inferior versions of a desktop version so why not just add touchscreen to the Mac rather than turn the iPad into a “not a computer” computer.

I was thinking more like having it looking like an iMac (without the chin) mounted on a stand with a keyboard and mouse. A very thin iMac :) I would not care too much about touch input on a device like that but I like iOS a lot. No need for a million settings or powerful pc hardware. My 12.9” iPad Pro is powerful enough! Can they make something like this for less money than an iMac?

Given that a top end iPad is nearing the price of a low end 27” iMac already, I doubt, if they were to go this route, that it would be cheaper than the iMac.

That said, I would expect something in the vein of the Surface desktop to come about at some point. It simply makes sense for the many creative uses that both iPads and iMacs are used for. The Surface desktop is nice hardware but hampered by a lack of good software making use of it. I’d wager this is something that’d come down the line after the Mac line transitions to Apple’s in-house processors.
