27" not much bigger than 24" ?

at first, i thought that 27" would be enormous compared to 24"

because on the previous generation, 24" was bigger than 20"

then i was thinking that using 16/9 format would provide more screen size without making the screen bigger

so i decided to compare the specs of the 24" and 27"

finally, it seems that:

iMac 27":
H : 51,7 cm
W: 65 cm

vs

iMac 24":
H: 52 cm
W: 56,9 cm


same height

so at the end, it will be wider but not "bigger"

does it make sense ?

do you share my impression ?


so can i go for the 27" without having the impression that it would be tooooo big ??? but more similar to 24" except for width ?

It's possible the 27" isn't too much bigger. It's 27" diagonally. They also may have reduced the bezel width somewhat which would give the actual computer a smaller size.

well this is my assumption

because so far we haven't had the chance yet to see a picture of a 27" next to the older 24" to compare


and by the time the new models reach stores, 24" will be off the shelf so it will also be difficult to compare

so guys do you think i could go for the 27" without having a too bulky/enormous screen on the desk ?
 
Of course, wide usually makes sense because our eyes are side by side not on top of each other.

Only you can answer that question.

Why don't you cut out a piece of cardboard to the specs listed for the 27" iMac and hold it up on your desk? It will give you a perfect visual reference.

Is there currently a 27" widescreen display that matches the new iMac's resolution spec? I was wonder what option there would be for a user that wanted to mirror or extend the desktop on a second panel. Unlike the current 24" Cinema, you wouldn't need the iSight.

Nope, 2560x1440 is unique to Apple at this point.

Not exactly, add another 160 pixel rows to the bottom and you've got a 30" cinema display.

If you buy the 27" C2D iMac, you basically get a 30" cinema display with a built in computer for $100 cheaper!

I still don't understand why Apple hasn't changed the 30" in more than 5 years (introduced exactly as it appears today on June 28, 2004).

They might update it with the current 27" IPS LED screens ... that'd be a nice display!

I'm pretty sure there is more overall area, which is worth it IMO

I did that before I bought my TV :p, I measured the wall studs for the mount and drew on the wall with pencil to see how a 32" would compare to others.
 
I made up a quick sketch based on their dimensions between the 24" and 27".

This is the first 27 inch monitor with 2560 pixels wide. I love it. Too bad it's glossy and it puts me off.
 
seeing them upclose, theyre definitely larger display wise...and the enclosure is much much thinner than the 24" so the enclosure on the 24" added the extra width to it.

the screen size is only a few inches off the 30" diagonally when comparing the measurements, i wanted to findout if it would bea suitable replacement of my current 30" display for my notebook and i just love the resolution, i played some itunes HD movies looks excellent.

changing screen resolutions depending on them either stretches them edge to edge or into puts bars on either side.

and they look pretty good none the less.
