ok, ill let everyone know how the replacement does in another big thread, but heres the deal. i had an imac that was yellow. my friend suggested that i just keep installing all my programs on it, that night, back it up in time machine and just hook it up when my new one gets there and save me a good chunk of time.

unfortunately for me, he's on a business trip to italy, so im a little unsure of how to go about this.

do i go through the initial setup (user names, etc) and THEN restore, OR is there something i do much earlier than that...like during the setup. obviously ive never messed with time machine like this, so you know...help is good!

thanks for the help, guys...

A new thread for your iMac probably won't be necessary.

Notwithstanding the state of your new iMac, once you go through the standard registration process it will ask you if you'd like to migrate from another machine, a time machine backup, or not at all. Pick Time Machine backup and it should be fine.

thanks jessica.

i thought as i wrote "guys" in the last reply, that i probably shouldve replaced that just in case. guess i shouldve followed my gut

anyways, ill try and do it like you said, during the setup.

oh and what i meant was that id reply to one of the big threads where everyone else is getting their imacs today. my bad.

thanks again!
