Anyone else think 27" is too big? I'm thinking about replacing my Desktop PC for an i7 Sandy Bridge iMac, but after seeing the 27" iMacs in person, I think 24" is the ideal size for me.

Do you think I'll adjust to the 27" size after using it for a while? ( i'm not sitting far from my desk )

I think that the 27" screen is awesome. It is very productive because you have lots of screen real estate. It is pretty much the same as having two monitors, in one. I think that if you have the money to buy the 27", go for it. :D

you'll get used to it
I switched to iMac 27'' from 13'' MacBook and it took just a few days to adjust)

I moved from 24" to 27" in November, and worried the screen was going to be too big. Two months later I love the screen and if I could afford it, would get a second.. I have got so used to seeing two documents open side by side and actually being able to work on them both, that I now feel a second screen would enable me to refer direct to my web pages whilst working on my research papers.

Go for the big screen is my advice.

I moved from 20 inch to 27 inch. My time to adjust? 3 hours. I can still live with smaller screens, but they're seen as hampering to me moreso than a good thing.

The best way I could describe it moving from that 20 inch screen (iMac G5) to the 27 inch iMac was like moving from a small, sentimental environment, to an actual desktop class computer.

sandybridge?

I'm assuming you're talking hypothetically about the next update right? I'm holding out for the next update as well.

Heck, my 24" is already two small. I was looking at the 30" monitor, and then figured that would be to small within a year, so I gave up on that idea (cost was the real reason).:)

Go with 27" I doubt that you'll be disappointed.

You'll adapt just fine. I went from the 24" this week to the 27" and I have no regrets at all.

That's what she said.....

Tomorrow I will be picking up a 27" Apple Cinema Display for my Mac Pro can't wait :), no you should adjust to the 27" iMac fine no worry's go for the 27"

The 27 should be fine, just make sure to put the monitor at an appropriate distance from your seat. My parents have a 24" at home and I think for where they have it, it is too big. I have a 21.5" at work, and I have it at just about the right distance at 2ft.

No Problem

the 27 is fine - sit close (approx. 18 in) and don't have a problem. The high resolution makes it work. I routinely increase text size and the big screen works just fine. Think about it, when you look at anything, it's huge but you only focus at the subject and ignore all else. The 27 up close is the same, I'm only looking at a small portion of it right now and everything else on the screen is ignored. I guess if I start watch movies full screen, I'll have to back away a bit.

Use blackish background photo for better concentration and energy saving. (Also, blackle.com as a browser homepage saves energy.)

I don't get how black backgrounds would save energy on an LCD monitor. Either way it has to backlight each individual pixel. If the screen were an oled, I could possibly see the argument, but definitely not an LCD.

I rarely use the full width on my 24" in daily tasks, scrolling up/down far more often but sometimes when comparing pictures when shopping I'll maximise the browser and drop the Dock simply to reduce on-scren distractions.

Photoshop uses the full width and also WoW of course. Both those two apps are pushing me in the direction of a 27" when I upgrade on the next refresh.

Biggest i would go is 32". I dont want an iMac as big as my TV (40").

As for the 27": No it isnt too big, i really hope for a 30" one in future...
