28% Battery Life is the new 0%

Hey guys, bit of a jam.

My MBP seems to have a bit of confusion about the battery capacity.

I'll be crusing along fine at 30% capacity and a health of 93%, then it'll go to sleep, report 0% capacity and 67% life.

Once I recharge it and use it a few times it'll go back to a 90's reading for battery life.

I've tried resetting SMC and PRAM.

This may border on stating the obvious, but have you considered that you might have a bad battery?

I have my suspicions. But I'm mostly looking for someone to wave their magic wand and fix it for me

Saves me a trip to either a Authorized repair center in Center City that charges $40 to just look at it, or a train ride out to the main line to sit in front of an apple genius.

I just hope they don't have to take my laptop, I need it for school.

If it's less than a year old, it's time to give Apple a call. Otherwise... well, sounds like it's time for a new battery. This is the sort of behavior I saw after two years with my first iBook battery, which is about the lifespan I'd expect given my usage.

If yours is behaving like this now, I wouldn't hold out much hope.

Edit: Oh, and you can run it (plugged in, of course) without the battery, so you won't have to leave it at the shop. If it'll cost you $40 to have it looked at, I would be inclined just to put that $40 towards a new battery.

Perhaps your battery was recalled. You may want to check before you head off to the repair center :]

Unless his MBP had a former life, I don't think that'll be much help.

I checked the serial number of my battery previously, no dice on that angle.
