So my iPhone 2G is stuck on the red battery icon and wont do anything else. Wont work with either wall or computer charger. Actually when pluged into the computer the computer does not even see its pluged in. I also cant put it into DFU mode. Any ideas what might be wrong?

Would the battery being bad stop it from turning on even when pluged in? And whats the connector?

Everytime I plug it in the battery icon turns on but when pluged out it shuts right off if that makes a difference?

Sounds like it might be time for an upgrade :)

My (abused) 3GS did this a few weeks ago. I just assumed it was either the battery or connector. I had 2 upgrades available on the account so I went ahead and used 1.

Ya I bought this for $20 and was hoping I could fix it so I could use it for a little while before I bought a new one :(

How long do you leave it plugged in? When you run your battery completely out it usually takes 15 minutes or so plugged in before the phone becomes usable. Happened to me yesterday.

So if anyone has an idea of anything I can do before I throw it away please let me know

Would having a bad battery stop it from working?

Probably. When my iphone 4 runs completely out of battery it won't function until it has a few percent charge like 5% - then it boots up and turns on. Until then it is just the red battery-need charge image.

As mentioned maybe replace the battery and you might get it working.
