I'm in Canada with FIDO.
I have a g2 iphone (At&T version) that is unlock and jailbroken with firmware 1.1.4 (4A102) according to the "About" section on the iphone.

I understand there is a new version on the firmware that has been released and already jailbroken.

Here's what I want to know and do.

If a phone is already unlocked can it be relocked by updating the firmware?
If yes, if I update the firmware how do I get it unlocked?

How do I unlock and how do I jailbreak the new ver of the iphone fireware for 2G

These are all valid questions that will require a lot to answer. Have you checked the forums yet? All these have been asked and answered. :)

Also, check out the Dev Team's blog at http://blog.iphone-dev.org/ for some info on all this too.

I have just been through this with my phone to go from 1.1.4 to 2.2.

So, here is what I did:
- downloaded the 2.2 firmware file from iClarified here:
http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=750
- put the phone into DFU mode, allowed the phone to restore through iTunes 8 to the 2.2 firmware (shift and restore)
- DID NOT activate through iTunes
- downloaded and ran Quickpwn, to unlock and install Cydia following this tutorial:
http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=1880

It all worked fine.

Just sync the phone in iTunes (to make a backup if you want to keep your data), restore the phone, upgrade to 2.2.1, then use QuickPwn to jailbreak and unlock the phone:)

Or do it whichever way the next poster tells you. That will be different again.

And then we ask people who post questions here "why are you confused?"
