I've had this iPhone since it came out and did not buy an extended warranty. It has stopped charging all of a sudden and it isn't the charger because I've tested it using a friend's, my own, and the car charger. My friend told me he took his to the AT&T store a few days ago because he was having the exact same problem and he had a 2G also. I am unsure as to if he had a warranty or not, but he told me that AT&T was shipping him a new iPhone to replace the broken one.

I do not have a warranty. Will AT&T (or should I go to the Apple store?) exchange my iPhone for a new one or will there be a fee? Or will they exchange it at all? It's the only phone I have and I'd have to say I'm very fond of it. If they do exchange it, will it be a 3G?

Thanks.

EDIT:
By the way, I just jailbroke it a few days ago on the 2.2.1 firmware.

Not gonna happen.
Sorry, but looks like you're out of luck. I'd suggest waiting until June or July if at all possible and buying a new iPhone when it comes out.

Apple won't exchange it, but maybe you can go a Apple Store and talk to somebody there and see it the can at least repair it . If they can then you have to think about the price and see if it better to wait for the "New iPhone" this summer.

Your phone is out of warranty, it really doesn't matter if your iPhone is jailbroken or not (you can't void something that doesn't exist)

Why do you feel Apple is under any obligation to help you replace your phone ?

Best idea would be to sell your iPhone for parts and wait for the new iPhone or get a different phone altogether.

This like replacing that TV you bought back in 2001.

The warranty is over, void, doesn't exist.

You don't have a lifetime warranty. Once the warranty ends - its your hard luck.

Apple will fix it for a fee, or they might offer you an iPhone 3G which you'd have to buy at refurb price (if you're still under your AT&T contract).

If you're not even within a contract, I doubt they'd even do that.

My advice is to upgrade to a 3G or wait until June/July and see what Apple brings.

Whatever you buy, be it a TV, washing machine, Car, mobile 'phone etc, once it is out of warranty and you have an accident with it - that's it!

Get it repaired or buy a new one! The thought of getting it exchanged is ..... silly :)

Thanks for all of your replies and I didn't mean to sound silly, I was just wondering. I'm not familiar with this kind of stuff and he never elaborated on how/why AT&T is sending him a new one. Sorry if I seemed stupid, haha. I'm definitely buying a 3G soon.
