2ghz white macbook or 1.86 Air?

I have a Dillema! I have found two choices of macbooks, but im not sure which one is the best.

A white 2ghz macbook with 4gb ram, 160gb harddrive for 550$ or a Air 1.86 with a superdrive and a mighty mouse for 640$

The 1.86 or 2GHz difference is hardly noticeable.

Well i think the air's only strong point is the better graphics card... But im not sure if thats a reason to go against a bigger hard drive and more ram

Yeah. Thinking I'll go with the 2ghz, since it's alot cheaper. RAM is for running programs and all, right? Guess that'd be better.

I dont play many games on the computer

Yes, the more apps you're running, the more RAM it uses. So when you're multi-tasking or using apps that require a lot of memory, you'll definitely notice the difference between 4GB and (I suppose?) 2GB.

Does this Air have an SDD? If so, that does make a big difference since those are way faster than regular HDDs. Also, the Air is lighter, if this is of importance to you.

this is, i'm sure, a dumb question, but i haven't really been able to find a satisfying answer. How much of a role does the processor play in the speed of a system? To be more specific - I use a computer really only for internet, email, music, and research. No games, no coding, etc. So would i really notice a difference between a 1.86 ghz processor and a 2.4 ghz processor, all else being equal?

I appreciate your responses.

go with the macbook unless u rly want the thinness of an air. imo airs arent that great. you pay more to get less performance, a hotter machine, and it's harder to replace things yourself.

I have the MB now but will be purchasing the MBA soon maybe this weekend I think I am going to like that one much better. Also itll be easier to lug around versus the MB.

how hard is it to "lug" around a macbook? you act as if it's something huge and unreasonable to carry.

to each his own but imo the macbook is so much more practical in every way. unless your really the type of person who just thinks its cool to have such a thin laptop that is harder to repair, heats up more, and has less performance power...

The main reason why you would get an Air is for the increased portability. Will you regularly be in a situation where the Air's lower weight and thickness would be a big advantage? Probably not. Seeing as you'd be going for the older 13" Air, the Macbook will give you an extra USB port (good for plugging in an external keyboard/mouse) and a faster processor. Also, even though it's heavier, it will still be easy to carry around.

If you did happen to be in the niche market for an Air, then $640 is a superb deal if the Air is in good condition. $550 is a fair price for a good-condition Macbook.

If it's a 2GHz, it's not. I'd just go with the MB. It's more practical, will be faster in probably every measurable way, and is far easier to repair.

also as i was saying before the airs get very very hott. and im like all about keeping my **** as cool as possible. i know there made to get hot but im just ocd and feel like running things cool will make it last longer
