I have OS X Mavericks installed on Drive 1, and a software raid using drive 2 and 3. If i format my main drive and reinstall mavericks fresh, will it see the software raid once I boot back up? Or will i lose the raid/data ?

Should be no problem. I setup my RAID when use SSD as boot disk, when I boot from the backup HDD, the RAID still there. That mean the RAID has nothing to do with the original boot partition.

The drivers for the RAID are stored outside of normally visible (to the OS) partition space. As long as the drivers on your RAID are compatible with the HBA, the drives on which the RAID is stored, and the OS platform, and the drives remain together and active, it should remain fine.

You can wipe the volume completely and there will be no ill effects. You will only experience ill effects if you somehow destroy/alter the partition map or partition tables. Of course, removing a drive from the RAID will also result in ill effects.
