2nd day in a row - installing app kills iPhone.

This is the second day in a row where I have tried to install an application and my phone restarted and showed the Apple boot logo indefinitely.

The first program I tried to install was More Cowbell!, the second one was some breakout game.

What's the deal? I have to put it into DFU mode and restore each time this happens.

Should I call Apple tomorrow and ask for a replacement? Is this a software problem? It seems like it's a hardware problem if I'm getting kernel panics like this. I'm kind of just assuming it's a kernel panic, since I have no access to the filesystem I have no access to logs so I can't check any crash logs or anything so I don't really know what is actually happening.

Restoring again ... This is getting cumbersome.

Definitely software problems. I had them with the first gen iphone, and now I'm having them with 3G. No question Apple rushed 2.0 out there to meet their distribution date.

I really don't understand how they could put this POS software update out to the masses. How is the media not reporting on this as well??? And what is the point of extensively long backups if you're not supposed to use them when you restore????

Am I supposed to troubleshoot this device to figure out which App is #$^&@*% up my phone?? I can't even plug the thing in at night now without worrying it freezing up (as it did last night, and a panic restore this morning so I wouldn't be without a phone for the day).

God help those people that aren't computer savy and purchased one of these.

Sorry for the rant, but I'm getting sick and tired of restoring this phone every couple of days.

App installation and updating seems to be an issue for almost everyone. Here is just one thread talking about various problems, among them one that sounds like yours:

Most application installs for me are an exercise in patience as they take FOREVER but they do eventually finish, although sometimes they do trigger a reboot and less frequently they will cause a lockup but a hard reset always fixes it without restoring.

No, I couldn't wake mine. I had to put it into DFU mode and restore. Surely the Mac Geniuses knew how to do that, if not then I should be working there and no them.

Something strange, is that it happened a third time this morning, luckily I had enough time to restore before I went to work. Anyway, it used to take FOREVER to install programs, now programs install pretty much instantly. What's that all about!?

I noticed that this morning too, though I had to cancel my app syncing because i didn't have enough time before work.

I'm wondering if I should delete all my apps in iTunes, and re-download them again. I'm reading that the phone isn't really syncing the updates, but rather t is syncing the originals (based on the naming conventions in the folders). Seems to sound about right, considering that after I sync, the App Store on my phone still indicates I have 16 updates (every time I update via the App store it freezes up on me).

If I get the most recent updates, maybe I can save myself a restore tomorrow.

I agree with you 100%. I thought that by keeping control of these apps Apple was supposed to make sure that they didn't make the iPhone unstable. They are not doing a very good job of it. While I haven't bricked my iPhone, apps are constantly crashing and not working as advertised. IDK if this is limited to just the free apps or paid as well? But either way This whole control thing by Apple is not very effective. 2.0 is horribly slow as well. I can't wait for the update. Hopefully a lot of this will be fixed????

Like everyone else said, installing/updating apps is really just an experience that changes every time

Today, I updated four apps and it took about 20-25 minutes to download/update them and I was on a strong wifi

Other times, the updates will download and then give me an error message or ask me for my password 5 times in a row before either updating or giving me an error message

It is a mess

I deleted all my apps from iTunes and redownloaded all of them last night (after restoring my phone for the umteenth time). I deleted everything in my mobile applications folder to ensure all applications were fresh installs. After syncing, I immediately noticed that all the apps on my phone are now the updated versions.

None of the updates I downloaded through iTunes previously every transferred onto my phone, no matter how many times I synced or restored. I'm hoping that the issue causing all of my crashes was related to an early release of a certain application on my phone.

Considering I have been restoring almost daily, I will let you guys know how I make out over the next couple days.

This is retarded. My EDGE phone was 1000% more stable jailbroken with all the hacks installed and background processes and stuff. AND I got better battery life.

Maybe I'm just having a bad few days.
