1. How slow, what kind of router do you have, or are you maybe confusing internet speed with wifi speed?

hi, sorry i meant internet speed. Not wifi speed. My ISP just provides 512kbps so any form of streaming is impossible.
If you're only streaming content from your own computer to the Apple TV, your internet speed won't matter as it won't use your actual internet connection, it'll only use the wireless connection produced by your router (which is different from the actual inernet connection). Your internet connection will only come in to play when you want to use things like Netflix, which will need to use your internet.
ok thx, so is there any option (i know its thr in 1st gen) where you can sync movies to apple tv so that it will get stored in that 8gb space provided and would not require any streaming?
No there isn't but as the previous poster said you shouldn't have a problem streaming locally anyway as it doesn't involve your internet connection.
+1 to the above. Your local wifi streaming shouldn't be any slower than if you had very fast internet because it doesn't use the internet at all.
Also, if you do want to watch a movie over the internet from like iTunes or Netflix the streaming works like syncing anyway. Meaning, every movie stream that you start is in fact downloaded to the 8GB storage and held there for you for later watching. It's essentially "synced" so you can download it in advance. So it's really not much different than the previous model in that respect. With 512 kbps internet, I wouldn't even try HD but in settings you can switch to SD and it should be somewhat ok if you just download in advance.

The Apple TV is fine, it's your internet.
It will work fine for content on your computer (movies/photos/music). Dont expect anything of quality to be acceptable to be streamed at 512 kbs.

I appreciate all your replies. But I am still not too clear on the issue and if someone could give me a straight answer whether shall I purchase or pass, that would be great. The way I will be using apple tv would be
1) RIP DVD's via handbrake and watch it on apple tv.
2) Borrow .avi kinda formats and convert it via handbrake and watch it on apple tv,
3) Wont watch any movie renting directly from netflix.
4) Wont stream anything from the internet.

You're good to go. As long as you're not on a B wireless network. Even if you were it still may be acceptible depending on the bitrate of your encodes.
Your computer will need to be on while watching anything at all on the atv2.
