iPad Pro 2nd hand 11 pro 1TB worth it?

I saw an ipad pro 11 1TB Wifi with smart keyboard and pencil for 1150. It's as new (sold locally), bought at the end of last year. To be honest, I don't particularly need a new ipad now as I have 2 pros fist gen (12.9 / 9.7) and a mini 5. If this was LTE I wouldn't have thought it, and bought it immediately. On the go I want lte only, so I bring either my 9.7 or my mini 5 (with respectively logitech create and brydge 7.9). And I always have an ipad with me whenever I have a backpack or any kind of bag. So this would be mainly for home use, youtube, webbrowsing etc. Currently I mainly use the 9.7 for that, sometimes the 12.9, which will probably still be good for a couple of years.
Is the offer too good to pass? What would you do if you were me? (it's not a matter of money, it's a matter of if this offer is worth it in a long term perspective)

If you need to ask this question I would think that it in't too good to pass up on. And given you put the uses as "mainly for home use, youtube, webbrowsing etc" I don't see how a $1,000+ purchase with 1TB storage matches the usage. What is it going to do for you that you're 12.9" IPPro can't do? It clearly isn't doing something right for the one selling it.

Personally, if I'm spending $500+ on an iPad, LTE is a must. For me, iPads are far more useful when they have built-in cellular so this one's a hard pass given my usage.

If one has the cash, not credit, to waste on a redundant consumer product, go for it. Same money would buy a number of nice outdoor experiences instead of laying on a couch, promoting body and brain rot

I own the 11” 1TB iPad Pro unlocked cellular version. I bought it brand new, for $1,329 on eBay. I’d say it is a pretty good deal. But I’ll 2nd what @rui no onna says. Cellular is a huge deal for me. If you have excellent WiFi at home, or work then ok. I’m sure it’ll work fine. But, I use my iPad as a phone sometimes and for GPS and things like that.

The 6GB of ram, and awesome 1TB of storage is a added bonus! I record a lot of 4K 60FPS video, and I record almost all of my gameplay. I’ve got tons of files that are 20GB+ in size that I’ve recorded by accident, and there’s absolutely no need to even delete this stuff.

I'm not sure this usage profile would justify the additional expense of the 1 TB model. I have one and actually it is not my preferred iPad. The edges are square, as in the original iPad, and as such I don't find it as comfortable as the intervening models. I use it when I'm traveling when I use the space to backup my camera photos.

I also have another older model which I had contemplated replacing with a Pro because I really like faceID and can't use TouchID. But ditched that idea due to the ergonomics and cost.

Just be aware of all of the gotchas when purchasing used items so that you don't lose your money.

While the average pro user could be after more ram or storage space, and this is the model they want. Or maybe you’re an artist and wants to be able to use some extreme amount of layers that a iPad Pro with only 4GB of ram physically cannot do. Or maybe he just wants a crazy amount of storage space for a mobile device.

I’ll tell you right now though from my own personal experience, the iPad pros with 4GB of ram cannot hold a candle to the fluidity in performance to a iPad with 6GB in ram. Once you start getting in to professional applications, and really pushing the devices, the difference is day and night.

I think it is overkill for your use case. That machine is meant for some serious work, and it’ll be butter smooth while doing it to! You could save some money by keeping your current iPad pros. Unless you are editing a lot of video, and or requiring a tremendous amount of storage space or ram, I do not think it is required for what you are doing.

The 1TB/6GB iPad Pro is a editing beast.

LTE is an absolute must for me. I wouldn't even consider buying one without it unless it was an older used mini that would only be used for eBooks. But to each his own.

It seems like the OP preferred LTE. So why spend 1K+ and it not be just what you want?

A few points.
Money is not an issue. I earn decent money and have got good savings, but I don't like to waste my money, so I am generally carefull when I purchase stuff...
I would have never bought the 2018 pro (any model) at full price given that my pros still work well on ios 12. Still if this was LTE I would have bought it even at 1300 max (keyboard and pencil are included). But definitely not full price.
This one is sold by a local shop that sells second hand stuff. They have tested it and and I can test it before I buy anything there. This is a 2000$ purchase that they probably bought for half the price and are now selling for 1150...
What I am really attracted to are the 6GB of RAM and what IOS 13 could make with it... And maybe the fact that I could make available offline all of my onedrive business account. And maybe also the fact that this could take ios improvements for many years while staying super fast.
My ipads are my "on the go" devices. I do e-mail, messaging, power point presentations, web browsing, remote desktop, etc. Basically what I used to do on a laptop on the go... And I use them at home for youtube, social media, document viewing, annotating, etc.
I don't do any video editing other than every now and then things like video cropping etc...
LTE is very important to me and I have a second SIM card that shares my unlimited data plan.
At home I have 10GB fiber (none of my devices has more than 1GB though...)
I have a spare iphone SE I could use as a modem. I know it's not as convenient as it is one more device to charge, speed is not as good as native, but it's a possibility I am considering...

Test and check warranty on the serial number, that's what I'd do at a minimum - especially if the price seems too good to pass up. Not beyond the realm of possibility that someone dumped the unit because they had issues with it, and I'd want to be able to get it serviced under warranty if those issues don't show up until days or weeks after I bought it.

I've never bought a cellular ipad as I only tend to use them for watching videos and playing games away from home. I've always tethered from my mobile phone. I have 100GB a month on my current plan so I like to use it with my ipads so I can justify such a large amount. However I think it's nice to have it as an option if you need it.

Your not gonna notice much difference browsing with 6GB of ram, I never even looked in to testing this, maybe you can open more webpages? Lol I dunno. The main difference for me was when I was gaming with another game minimized, or first opening a game. “I’m referring to the much more demanding iPad games”, also rendering 4K footage with a lot of effects added in. My iPad Pro 11” with 4GB of ram just couldn’t keep up, and maintain a perfectly smooth transition all the time. This was why I specifically went after a 1TB/6GB 11” iPad Pro, and sure enough it has been butter smooth ever since. Even with a 512GB 11” side by side a 1TB 11” I could recreate the problems on the lower storage iPads with less memory every time.

As for your needs, I know for a fact you could get by with much less of an iPad. But, it seems like a great deal. And it sounds like you want it, aside from what everyone else says “the decision is yours”. So, I’d say go for it. It includes a keyboard folio too? Very nice.

Yeah, editing and gaming, 2 things I do very little for lack of time. The only games I (rarely) play are some old 32bit games for which I keep an ipad mini 2 on ios 10 around and they run buttery smooth there (these are modern versions of DOS games I used to play in the early 90s when I was a teenager....). Nostalgia....
Still we are on IOS 12, an OS that is no heavier than IOS 9 and where even 2GB devices like the 9.7 pro and the 2018 ipad run smoothly... I guess that might change soon if heavier multitasking features are introduced. I think RAM is a precious asset for the future and I want to jump directly to more than 4GB for my next ipad. The thing is weather to do it now with the current pro or wait a couple of years... Still I have a hard time thinking of what can still be improved from a hardware point of view, other that reintroducing the audio jack, which won't happen. Maybe making the pro body stronger?
And speaking of audio, something I forgot mentioning is that I do music on my ipads (that's the reason why I bought the first one in 2013/14), but current music apps car barely take advantage of the first ipad pro today....

It is indeed, that's why I made this whole thread... I have seen it since last weekend, but I have not yet asked to try it yet. If I do, I'll take my mac to test the battery with coconut battery, but it was bought at the end of last year and they have the original invoice. Still 1150 is a lot of money and would be more of a bet on future ios improvements that something with which I could do more than what my pro 9.7 and mini 5 already do (and even better with LTE for both) now on IOS 12....

I tend to only sell locally because there are too many buyer scam on ebay. And my experience is that locally people don't but top of the line. That's why it has been there for over a week... But if I buy I doubt I would sell it soom... Another thing that has kept me away from the 11 is app compatibility with the aspect ratio. I do quite a lot of remote desktop on the go and 3/2 is perfect as I could connect 1.1 to my surface, which is my main windows device. But I believe remote desktop apps (teamviewer, vnc etc.) haven't yet updated to the new ratio, so I wouldn't gain much compared to my 9.7 for now...

Already did, and I’m certain of this problem. I’ve owned (2) 64GB iPad Pro 11” models W/ 4GB. Then I bought a 11” 1TB model W/6GB, I tested my brothers 11” 512GB model side by side, while he was away on a cruise. I put like 30 hours in to monitoring memory utilization with the intention of making a video about the advantages of 6GB of ram over 4GB of ram for professional uses.

The lower storage iPad models W/4GB of ram start out with 3.69GB, and the 1TB model has 5.55GB of ram before even powering the device on. Once iOS starts sharing ram to several area like the vram, SSD cache, and applications, and system resources the model with 4GB of ram really are sitting at about 2.5GB to 2.9GB free with no applications open at all.

I’ve been able to bring the free ram to zero on a 4GB iPad, and then the inactive ram starts to get eaten away, this is when some performance issues would start happening.

I’m 100% positive that 4GB of ram has its weakness with the right users.

You cannot monitor but so well with iOS, but I did run the exact same backup on each model 512GB vs. 1024GB

I’d say for the average user, 4GB is more than enough. But, you can run in to its limits
