Dear all

For the second time in 3 years (date of purchased is june 2020) I have a huge malfunction.
The first time they had to change the motherboard, it was still under guarantee,
this time again the mother board of the touch id as mentionned on the repair order,
the cost of the repair would be 897 euros !
This is huge, and I am afraid that this problem will occur again.
Should I have it repaired ?
I took a lot of care of my macbook does this kind of problem happen often (2 huge repairs in 3 years )
should I presume this is a faulty unit and should not have the repair done ?
Is there some kind of request I could have to apple ?

Thanks for your advice

I see two choices:

First choice:
If it's ONLY "the touch ID" that has failed, I'd just keep using it WITHOUT touch ID.
(so long as everything else works)
That IS NOT worth 900 euros to fix.
Is it really, REALLY that important to you?

Second choice:
If you MUST have touch ID in order to sleep at night, DON'T FIX the 2020.
Instead, take that 900 euros and put it towards a 2023 MacBook Pro 14".

Personal experience:
I have a MacBook Pro 14", which has the touch ID button.
I HAVE NEVER USED IT -- never even bothered to configure it.
It means nothing to me.
Old guy here, I can safely say that "touch ID" is "a feature" I'll never bother with.

no indeed it is not working at all, i could not turn it on, the whole mother board must be faulty also, hence the price for the repair, my main worry is that mother board will break down again in 2 years, because something is causing to fail.

OK I talked to the technician another logic board failure (see other posts on that) it happens apparently, call the customer service in France they were nice but say could not take in charge the repari, how frequently does this failure happen ? what are the odd I will have another issue ? I won't probably have it repair, now I think due to the price of those machines and repair parts is is only for rich people, or people who have an intensive use of it, I am in none of those two cases.
