2nd Phone; SG3 or Nokia Lumia? 3 Hours to decide!

Ok, I am not a troll. Im an apple fan that is heavily invested in the apple ecosystem. I will admit that the iPhone is getting a bit boring for me which brings me to this question.

I am in need of a 2nd device and I am looking at the G3 or the Lumia. I know W8 is right around the corner but if I decide on the Lumia now I will just sell the current one on eBay and get the new one. I am back and forth on the SG3 and the Lumia and must decide in the next few hours. I have to get either one TODAY.

Any thoughts on iPhone owners that also got one of these devices please let me know what you think. I have about 3 hours to make the choice.

I don't have this device, but if for whatever reason I couldn't have an iPhone, I'd get the Lumia. I've used WP7 on a Lumia, it is fast, polished and I enjoy the UI.

I personally just don't like Android's UI (it looks unpolished and inconsistent). But Android will have more apps & support.
 
GS3. Easily. I know at times Android users have issues with updates, but if you buy the Lumia it's already been stated that WP8 won't be coming to it. I could be wrong on that though but I don't think I am. The GS3 is receiving Jelly Bean, and I'm almost certain that, due to it's flagship status, would probably get the next update as well.
 
Windows Phone, as mentioned, is very fast and the UI is very good. If you are a Windows user and love the whole metro UI look, you'll probably love it here as well. I don't know if you'll be able to upgrade Lumia's OS to WP8, but if you can, then it's a great choice.

While on the other hand, S3 has Android's app market which has more content than the Windows one currently. But we'll most definitely see a rise in the apps after WP8 comes out.

It comes down between UI and apps I guess.

For me, personally, I don't like the Android UI and especially the Samsung S-series. Just my preference.

Edit: So apparently, you can't upgrade Lumia to WP8, so meh. =P

I would go with the S3 since the resale value would far outweigh the lumia if you decide to get a windows 8 phone. Furthermore the current lumia is locked down tighter than ft Knox, less spec'd than the GS3 and almost at the end of its life span.

This should be a no-brainer.

No current WP7 will be upgraded to WP8

7.5 is all it's going to get.
 
Windows Phone 8 is shaping up to be a nice alternative to iOS and Android. But am I the only one who isn't a fan of how the Lumia looks? Everyone praises it, so clearly they've done something right, but I came away thoroughly unimpressed by both the internal and external hardware. The software is where it counts, and I realize that. But the Lumia is just not aesthetically pleasing to me.

This is easy:

  • Get the GS3
  • If you don't like it, get the Windows 8 Lumia later.
 
If it weren't for all the iOS specific features I love, I'd probably be using the Galaxy S III. If the new iPhone doesn't blow me away I might go for it.
 
Having owned and loved both phones, the GS3 wins by a country mile.

But this is as a main phone. If you're talking strictly backup, you might find yourself liking the Lumia a bit more but as far as comparing each device down to the specs, screen, camera, OS.....it's not even close.

I say go for it. You probably won't regret it. And even if you try it and it's not for you, at least you can say that you tried it out and determined it wasn't for you instead of being like a lot people and mocking it without ever trying it.

Not necessarily. If that were the case we'd all be using dumbphones and blackberry's. Phones are entertainment devices now as well as telephones. People can (and will) get bored with them sometimes.

That makes little sense. TVs are entertainment devices, but people don't get bored outside of content that you get through TV and go out buying new ones with hardware improvements. When people here say they're bored with a phone, they're surely not talking about content alone.

So yeah, if you're bored with TVs or phones, you need to find a hobby or something.
 
Well I probably missed your deadline, but I would just go to the store and get a hands on to see which I felt more attracted to.

You can't compare a tv with a phone. Your phone is with you 24/7 and offers much more of a multimedia experience.

I can definitely see someone getting bored of their phone.

Multimedia experience or not, if you're bored with technology, it's an indication you need to find a hobby that allows you to get out and actually interact with people.

Nice of you to assume people need to get out more and interact. I for one work 100+ hours a week (oil field industry) and most times my phone is the only thing I have available to me.

I'd much rather sleep on my off time.

I'm sure if you look at some TV enthused forums you'll find people that change tv's like people here change phones and computers.

You are giving peoples obsessive nature to much credit :D
 
Given those choices, SGS3 without a doubt. Have a Lumia 900, like it, but not as much as an Android device.
