So, the title says it all. I got my replacement on the exact same truck as my iPhone 4 (yay!) and fired up Pixel Check right away. It has one stuck pixel that is only visible when displaying Black. It shows as light blue. It is so unoticeable though, and everything else about it is so perfect (no yellow tinge/no spots/no loud HD or fans/etc.) that I am deeming this one a keeper. Especially now that I have educated my self a little more about the nature of this type of very high resolution LCD technology and after reading Apple's stance on dead and stuck pixels, I am just going to accept it. Some of you may disagree, but I need my computer and I'm not willing to go through the returns process over and over and possibly get a machine with even worse problems. Also, Apple already credited me $150.00 so I'm ok with it.

They wouldn't replace it any way. Not for one stuck pixel

Yes they will, within the 14 day return period. It is one day old. Again, I'm not worried about it at this point. I think some that have gone through 5 or more are being unrealistic about the limitations of the display technology. It's going to happen. They gave me a discount for my troubles so I'm just going to let it lie.

My second iMac 27" also had a blue stuck pixel only visible on black. I could only see it if I looked close to the screen, so that was not really a valid reason to send it back. However, it did have loud fans and major backlight leakage so I sent it back. Third one is flawless. :D

What is your discount?

You went through 2 total machines, correct? What was wrong with your first one?

I had the same problems with my first iMac, I got sick of lugging it back to the store so much I just got a refund. I wouldn't stand for it, you paid probably over 2000$ for it, you should get your money's worth.

Though, if you do return it and get a new one, make them let you open it inside the store and look at the screen before taking it home, the behemoth 27 inch ones would be a pain to take back and forth.

thats what i thought too - i thought you needed >6.

if its 1 stuck pixel you wont EVER notice it. i think i have 3 on my iMac. i dont even see them they are so small :D

You guys really need to read the entire thread. They will take it back for any reason within the first 14 days. After that, you are partially correct. I think it is 5 within a 3 inch square area from what the guy at the Apple store told me.

Almost every LCD screen on the market has at least one dead/stuck pixel. My MBP has one stuck pixel near the dock, you only notice it if you are looking for it. There is also a dead pixel on the top left hand side of the screen, again not noticeable unless you are looking for it.

My new iMac arrives this thursday, I am praying its a keeper, don't feel like being on the phone with apple on thursday night, I want to play with my new toy!!

fair enough - thanks for pointing that out. :)

I got a 27" iMac...first one had stuck pixel, brought it back, opened up #2 in store, had another stuck pixel, #3 has a perfect screen but now has the buzz/whine when you lower the brightness, not sure if I'm going to accept it yet....so annoying...why does it have to be like a lottery?

How did you get the 150? Did they offer it to you without you asking at all? Can you describe how it went?

I unboxed my first iMac withing 5 minutes of it being delievered and started it up and immediately noticed the line of dead pixels on the white startup screen. I called Apple immediately and explained the situation and that this was my very first Apple computer that I had ordered (iBook G4 is a hand-me-down from when a family member upgraded to a MacBook Pro) and that I had done so after several months of research and in spite of the fact that some users seemed to indicate there was a quality control problem with the display.

The Apple Care rep. gave me the spiel about how "this normally isn't the case, most iMacs are flawless" and I told her she might change that opinion if she did some research on the issue herself out of the confines of her workplace. (In other words wake up and quit drinking the Apple Company Kool-Aid). I didn't say that but I wanted to.

Anyway, I must have sounded really upset and frustrated on the phone because she immediately switched gears and started setting up a replacement and then suddenly issued the statement out of the blue,"I am authorized to give you a one time only discount of $150.00 that will be credited to your credit card within 5 business days for the inconvenience". Sort of dumbfounded I said,"How much?!?" and she repeated herself sounding very happy with herself and what she was able to do for me.

After that I just hung up and that was that. The credit has already been issued in addition to another $30 credit that they issued to cover a box that a FedEx Office store forced me to purchase for the RMA. They weren't supposed to do that so Apple reimbursed me. Here is the proof:

All I can say is lucky you.. I went through more trouble than you did and only got offered $100 in the end. And that was only after negotiating the discount with the rep in the first place, who initially offered something like $50 ONLY if I keep the iMac, or a $10 coupon on a future order.

Why was my rep such an unreasonable bastard and yours not? What department did you talk to?

Hi dexhageek,
here is my 28" Samsung SyncMaster screen.
Obviously you're buying the wrong monitors:

Was the iMac you bought a brand new built to order i7/8GB/2TB? If not, then it most likely has to do with a lower initial purchase price than mine. Maybe they are only authorized to offer a percentage of the purchase price?

Also, this was my very first Apple computer and that I bought myself and they probably saw that in their system and wanted to keep me loyal because of the bad first experience.

Have you bought and had problems with Apple products in the past and not been so nice and maybe generated a back history with them that isn't so favorable?

If none of the above hold true then I really don't know man. Luck of the draw I guess. And I was talking to Apple Care, as previously stated.

Yeah, my and my father both have a similar issue: just one lazy/stuck pixel.
It's so unnoticeable that the hassle is just not worth it :) We're way to happy with our respective iMacs to turn them in ^^

That's why I said "almost" I also have a samsung 22 inch display which has no dead or stuck pixels.

Oh and for the record, a screenshot will "NOT" show you dead or stuck pixels.

I had one stuck pixel that was red, couldn't live with that so I got a replacement.

It was a refurb. FIVE total refurbs, all with problems of varying kinds such as yellow tint, grey horizontal bar, backlight bleed, dead and stuck pixels, no wifi card detected, grumbling hard drive, high pitched whine when lowering brightness, and even dents in the stand itself.

I have bought past Apple products but have not had any significant problems until this situation so I don't see how I'd have any bad history.

Also, look at this guy's experience:

https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/953756/

He got a $150 discount plus a free printer and he seemed to have gotten a stock iMac, and is only on his first replacement, like yours. Meanwhile, I've got through five total machines and had to deal with a big shipping issue that cost me two days of work and all I got was a $100 discount. After calling back again, I got it to go up to $200. Still don't think that's appropriate given my missed days of work and having to deal with 5. I mean, if you guys only had to deal with ONE replacement and didn't have to take any days off work to deal with it and you get offered $150 right on the spot, then that's hardly fair for my situation. I'm not expecting something equivalent to two missed days of work monetarily, but it certainly has to be more than $200. I thought a 15% would be appropriate.

Almost every LCD screen on the market has at least one dead/stuck pixel.

Almost every LCD?? More like almost every LCD DOESN'T have any dead pixels, I've had many devices with LCD screens and none of them ever had a dead pixel (2 x DSs, 2 x PSPs, 2 x 22" monitors, 24" monitor, 2 x 15" macbook pro, 13" macbook pro, 4 x Dell Latitude d410, 27" iMac, 46" Samsung LCD TV etc etc)

ok, I stand corrected based on your experience.
And hopefully, my 27'' iMac coming this week will be perfect.
