Hello all,
My first (week 49) 27" quad core was nothing short of a disaster.

It had tens and tens of dead pixels in the lower right corner, resembling a hair that had gotten stuck between the panel and the glass. It looked like a major fault in the panel or that something scratched it during assembly, and was the main reason why I exchanged the Mac.
It also had a horrible low-pitched noise emitting from the hard drive's spinning. It clearly was due to the hard drive's vibrations and sounded like the hard drive was not securely bolted in place.
And, of course, it had the yellow tint issue.

I just received a replacement which is a week 51 machine and it seems perfect, even lacking the yellow tint!

So moral of the story, it's a Russian roulette where you can get lucky and this time I did get lucky. However, buying a 1900€ machine should not be a game of chance and Apple really needs to step up their game. Do not come here blaming LG or anyone else - these are Apple branded machines with huge profit margins and Apple needs to sort this out, noone else.

Glad to hear its worked out well.

I agree with your comments - its up to Apple to sort these problems out. Good customer service is no substitute for well made products. I shudder to think how much all this shipping and re-shipping has cost Apple in actual costs let alone lost sales.

Great to hear that yours is perfect. I knew there would be problems as the update was so major and the display used in 27" iMac is designed for iMac so it hasn't been manufactured before the iMac came out and 1st revs are known to have different kinda problems. Hopefully Apple has done something for the issues as when you buy a 2000€ computer, you want it to be flawless.

Ja kiva nähä muitakin Suomalaisia tääl

I think I celebrated a bit prematurely as I just noticed a dead sub pixel near the center of the screen, but considering how high the dpi is that doesn't disturb me too much. And after a couple of minutes of usage one of the fans has started to randomly make this uneven "rotating" noise, like it was hitting something (fortunately this doesn't happen too often). Nevertheless I will keep this machine as I can live with these issues.

Glad to hear its worked out well.

True that. However, I don't think that 99% of the consumers are sending their machines back, let alone even notice the relatively "minor" issues (such as a slight yellowing of the panel).

Oh, and thanks for the congratulations guys! (Not that they should be needed though hehe!).

Man... after your initial post I was excited to hear i5's showing up with no issues, then finished the thread lol. Oh well, I'm on number 3 and before my 14 day runs out probably going to swap for number 4 and continue to swap out until I get a good one.

Good Luck with yours!

Well as stated before the sub pixel error is so small that it is impossible to notice unless the background is solid colored AND you are staring at it AND you are a couple of centimeters from the screen, so for all intents and purposes I see this screen as good enough.

May I ask what was wrong with #3 and what week it was manufactured?

This is really just not good business for Apple with all these bad iMacs. They should be recalling all the serial numbers that have been problematic for others. I guarantee Apple is working on the problem, but a problem this big should have been solved quicker. Good luck to all the unlucky new iMac buyers.

So far all 3 of them have the yellow tint, 1st one purchased on Dec 20th was a week 46, took it back the next day and got a week 47 with the same issue, the worst of the three so far. Week 47 had yellow tint over about a third of the bottom and up the right side of the screen, about 2" off the right side.

The latest one (week 51), which I have the same yellow tint along the bottom, only seems to be going up about 3 or 4" on the lower right side while the lower left I only notice it up maybe 2". I have a case # with Apple and pretty much figure I will just wait it out until they come up with a solution. I love the machine and don't rely on it for pro photo or video work so i'll live with it until they figure it out.

The biggest issue is while browsing he web, doing email, spreadsheets or letters. Anytime I watch a movie or other darker backgrounds it's not nearly as noticeable.
