My household's iCloud storage is increasing at about 200GB per year. At our current usage, we will exceed 2TB in mid-2024. Projecting further, it will take 20 years to exceed 6TB.

So that got me thinking about my options:

Needless to say, I will exceed 50GB in no time flat, so those plans aren't worth considering.

But 200GB should last a year. So I have a choice of paying $29.99 for just the iCloud+ 6TB or $32.94-35.94 for Apple One + additional storage. Then in 2025, I will have to choose between iCloud+ 6TB at $29.99 or Apple One Premier + 2TB at $42.94. If Apple One is useful enough for my family, I will choose the later.

So I'll say this overall Apple's rate is actually quite fair for $30 for 6TB. But the fact is that as soon as you exceed 2TB you are paying the 6TB price is something that I find it off putting.

Also, iCloud's handling of photos is just terrible in general, especially when you have a lot of photos/videos. I've just actually decided to cut down from 2TB down to 200GB by removing most of all photos/video.

how are you able to add 50 or 200Gb iCloud+ storage to a 2TB AppleOne premier plan? I have 2 apple IDs (one for iCloud, one for media and purchases) and it seems impossible.

Sorry if I didn’t make it clear. I deleted most of my iCloud Photos and downgraded to 200gb.

With any Apple One subscription, you can purchase additional iCloud+ storage. Apple's "What happens to your iCloud storage when you sign up for Apple One" support article explains this:
If you need more iCloud storage

After you subscribe to Apple One, you can buy more iCloud storage if you need more. With both Apple One and an iCloud+ plan, you can have up to 14TB of total iCloud storage.
I also use 2 Apple IDs.

My primary personal Apple ID is used for iCloud+ 2TB. I will convert this to Apple One plan (probably starting with Apple One Family with 200GB), then add iCloud+ 2TB onto it.

My shared Apple ID will remain media & purchases account.

If you have Apple One Premier 2TB and are sharing it with family, is there ANY option other than paying for the new 6TB plan? My family is right under 2TB and we could use another 200GB to be comfortable, but don't need another 4TB (nor do I want to pay for unused storage). What I've been told by Apple is that your Apple One plan now supercedes any iCloud+ storage you purchase.

Apple representative is wrong. With any Apple One plan, you can add any iCloud+ storage plan, 100GB (50GB + 50GB) all the way to 14TB (2TB + 12TB).

That article explains what to do if you are trying to upgrade iCloud+ to Apple One.

There's a link near the bottom that is a bit more relevant, under If you need more iCloud storage heading: Upgrade to iCloud+. I haven't done it myself as I am still using 1.7TB. But you are supposed to purchase supplemental storage from Manage Storage option.

Yeah, now these are the only options

It says you currently have iCloud+ 2TB storage.

This is what you will need to do.
  1. Settings | Apple ID | Subscriptions | Apple One -> Try It Now)
  2. Choose either Family (200GB) or Premier (2TB)
  3. Settings | Apple ID | iCloud | Manage Account Storage | Change Storage Plan | 200GB (if you chose Premier) or 2TB (if you chose Family)
You will get Apple One free for 1-month.

After that, your monthly bill will be $32.94/month for Apple One Family + 2TB or $35.94/month for Apple One Premier with 200GB. You can decide whether $3/month extra is worth Apple Fitness and Apple News+.

I suspect you will eventually need more than 2.2TB though, at which point you will need to debate whether to spend $29.99/month for iCloud+ 6TB or $42.94/month for Apple One Premier + 2TB.

I really appreciate your instructions, but I already have Apple One Premier. I think that is the problem. If you already have premier you can't add additional iCloud+ storage.

I think part of my issue is that I have 2 Apple IDs. One for Media and Purchases, and one for iCloud.

To make matters even more confusing, if I go to Settings | Apple ID | iCloud

I get this "Recommended for You" banner

IMG_0227.jpeg

Clicking on that, I get this:

IMG_0225.jpeg

If I click "Upgrade Plan", then I get this option

IMG_0226.jpeg

But if I choose one of these, it removes my Apple One Premier 2TB storage and I have to add that all over again and the cycle repeats.

So my phone is telling me I'm running out of storage but directing me to a faulty way to upgrade to a new storage plan. Again, I think this is a flaw with having 2 separate Apple IDs.
