Hi all,

Congrats to everyone receiving the M1! I've read on these forums that 2TB SSD is faster.

Has anyone received such a machine who can test? If so, is it Air, Pro, or Mini? What are standard benchmark results?

What is the source of the faster speed? I didn't seem to find it on "Tech Specs" page on the Apple Website.

TIA!

Hi all, bumping this thread. I'm curious if anyone has a 2TB M1 and can report experiences and benchmarks? TIA!

Bumping again. Has anyone received a 2TB machine?

Even if not, does anyone know where I can find the document describing the speed of the different SSDs and that specifies the 2 TB drive is faster?

Thank you in advance!

I'm curious also. My M1 Mac Mini 16GB/2TB won't be here till next month. I'm thinking/hoping it will be in the 2,500-2,800 range.

Thanks for your response! I hope you get it soon. The 2,500-2,800 is the speed?

I have a Mac Mini and MBP 16/2TB on order. Mini should arrive Dec. 16-23. I can help answer questions then.

I think 2TB's are rare ... they don't have them in stores and ship times were ridiculous for them. I settles for 1TB, any faster and it would literally be better than instant, so I would guess the speed will be negligible ...

I have a 2TB MBP that has shipped Apple says it will be delivered on Dec. 4th. I can run test when I get it if that helps?

Aaron from Zollotech reviewed the m1 mini with 2TB SSD. His testing unit has a whopping 3700MB/s write and 2700MB/s read. Jump to roughly 6:50 to see his result. Definitely the fastest among the other storage options.

TY! It will be the same in air/pro?

That is MUCh faster than I thought. Now I just have to wait a week or two.

Here's what I'm getting on a fully loaded M1 MacBook Air (8 core GPU, 16 GB RAM, 2 TB SSD):

I wish this thread had been kept up to date. I have just bought a used 2TB M1 MBA to replace my 256GB M1 MBA! I studied the M2 MBA but for the money, I am exchanging around 15% in raw performance for 8x the storage and around double the read/write speeds. The difference between sale of the old and purchase of the new should be around £400-£500. 2TB allows me to keep absolutely everything on the Mac with years to spare. Besides I prefer the expensive wedge design of the M1 MBA.

I personally would have gone with 1TB and used the extra cash on an external drive if anything.

Yes, I absolutely agree in principle, except I got the 2TB model for the price of a 1TB model (£1140 inc delivery) and I already have an external Thunderbolt 2TB SSD.

1TB suits my needs now - all my music, photos and films take up a little under 500GB. But there is always tomorrow and I love this MacBook Air design, much more so than the new, flat M2 MBA.

Part of me says a 2TB SSD is an obscene amount of storage for an 'ultrabook'. I am sure I will get used to it :)

Well, that makes sense. I can see how the 2TB option made the cut.

My M1 MBP with 2TB ssd, gets about 5200 on read and write with the black magic speed test. I opted for the 2TB figuring it may last longer with the writes distributed over 2TB rather than 1TB.
My 2013 Trash Mac with the OWC 2TB drive gets around 1200/1400 write/read.
