3.0.1 done: Now need to jailbreak again etc

My 2g came to me already JB and Cydia on it etc.

Did the upgrade last night forgetting it would remove my JB and some free apps etc (!!)

i like Cydia back on ,,,but by the looks of things i should wait until they 100% sort out the new JB and to work with 3.0.1 ?

what is the EASIEST way to safely JB a 2g and then add cydia etc ?

you dont jailbreak and then add cydia... cydia is placed on the phone automatically when you jailbreak. (optional when using redsn0w)

Just use redsn0w for pc of pwnagetool for mac. Before you JB, Update to 3.0.1 and then use the 3.0 ipsw

Also... search is your friend

dev team blog home page tells you how to do everything, and everything works fine with 3.0.1

Do what audx said just use the ipsw 3.0, and boom there you go jb again

Hi there, first post so here goes.

I've been reading the forums on here and several other sites and have decided to jailbreak my Iphone 3gs 32gb which is on 3.0.1 software I am getting there but not 100% on this, if I have updated to 3.0.1 will it give me an option to add redsn0w to the (what I presume is) old software 3.0 where do I find it ?

If you have the 3.0.1 firmware installed on your phone, just run redsn0w on the PC and jailbreak. There will be a point when redsn0w asks you to browse to the firmware file, you'll need to browse to the 3.0 firmware. If you don't already have this file, do a google search and you'll find it to download. After you have the file on your pc, browse to it when redsn0w asks you, then let it do its thing and you'll be jailbroken.

yes, when you run redsn0w you have to browse your computer to find the ipsw. i can walk you through where to find it, if I knew what kind of a computer you have, but here is a tutorial from youtube not the greatest but should get you started.

I'm intrigued, but am I enough to go through it all again. My iTunes is saying there's an upgrade to 3.01 (I'm on a 2g now running 3.0 - HURRAH!)

If I upgrade to 3.01, then jailbreak using 3.0, surely that reverts me back to 3.0, or misses something that makes 3.01....3.01?

I've just set up my emails, wifi and about to do the telephone list again so don't really want to be messin' with it, if it's not worth it!

hiya yeah I knew I'd forgotten something I'm going to be updating it using a MacBook. I actually downloaded the ipsw yesterday I think and saved it to my desktop but was wondering how that configured to the phone ?

well thats good, if you haven't updated to 3.0.1 you can find the ipsw thtough all your folders such as:

1.click the finder
2.go to your home folder(usually your name bc thats what mac defaults the folder to)
3.then to itunes folder
4.then to iphone restore solder and the ipsw is there and make a copy of it to your desktop or wherever you can find it


but if you already updated to 3.0.1, its good that you found one and downloaded it.

the ipsw configures to the phone through redsn0w, it is one of the steps in order to jb (kind of like a pre-requisite in order for the other initial steps to begin). Redsn0w basically needs it to run its thing, lol. So don't worry nothing will happen to your phone having 3.0 ipsw for the jb and having 3.0.1 on the phone.

jail broken my iphone....... working fine........yeeeeeaaahhhhhh..:D
sorry if this is off topic........

Can i install winterboard through pc.... :eek: i cant use cydia.... no wifi available.......:(

and can i install new update for carrier settings...... will this affect my jailbroken phone.. (i dont wanna install if i need to jailbreak again)....
