3.0 Norton Internet Security install prob.

Hi.
I'm new to mac (from IBM) and I may have a norton internet security install problem.

I have a powerbook g4 with tiger os and after i have installed (uninstalled) and then reinstalled this software i get 3 pop-up messages from norton that say (1) i need to reinstall norton (2) that i need to update my operating system and that some parts of norton will not be installed and (3) that there is a kernal problem.

I usually close these windows and continue as normal. I am able to do live updates and I can scan for viruses...but am i not getting the full install?

Any advice would be great--

I don't know what your problem is. I do know that virus scanners for OS X tend to cause more problems then they solve. There are no known viruses for OS X. There are some trojans that require you to activate them and enter your password, but no actual self sustaining viruses. Your best bet is not to use it.

Best advice:

1) Open Window
2) Throw Norton's discs out into street
3) Close window
4) Be happy

And of course, remove all Norton's crapware from your system, then back-up & re-install your OS & data.......

Open System Preferences. Click the Sharing icon.
Select the Firewall tab.
If it's not already On, click the Start button.

[Also, run Software Update (in the Apple menu) regularly. You can specify an interval in System Preferences]

Make sure the built-in firewall is turned on. Don't type your admin password into anything unless you know exactly what it is for. If you run Virtual PC, make sure that VPC has a windows virus scanner. That's about it for security.

You see grapes911 avatar? That's what you should be doing with anything from Norton. Run like hell. Next to a smack with a sledge hammer, it is the best way to screw up your mac.

Wow.. thank GOODNESS you had troubles installing it. As noted by others, avoid Symantec products at all costs on the Mac.

A nice little app that will tell you of OUTGOING connections from apps, scripts, and whatever else, is called LITTLE SNITCH. IT's cheap and allows you to make rules for each app/site that any conenction is going out to, and it will warn you ebfore it allows the connection to go out.
