Contemplated on jailbreaking my 3G iPhone before the 3.1 update, but just didn't.
So now I have a 3.1 and to my understanding I cannot jailbreak it as of yet.
And to do so, I need to go back to 3.0.

So my question(s) are how do I do so using a PC/Windows?

Or should I even bother?

If I jailbreak, what happens to the apps, etc. I currently have on my phone?
Do they remain on it?

The best steps to take BEFORE jailbreak a phone? I.E-backing up, saving, etc.

Thank You for any help, links, etc. ! :)

You can JB if you get a copy of the custom_restore IPSW for 3G

Then use iTunes to restore to that firmware.

Before updating, sync your phone
Get firmware package (all over the internet, be sure to get the right one or get a friend with a Mac to make you one)
Hit Cmd + Update and direct iTunes to custom-restore firmware
Choose set up as new phone
When complete, sync back your stuff

There are lots of more detailed tutorials on the Internet, use Google.

I found some sites with helpful info, but can't get passed the Error message when downgrading to 3.0.

Then even if I bi-pass that, I can't get it out of the mode where the phone itself has that "plug your phone into the cord" picture.

After the Downloading Jailbreak Data finishes, my phone goes back to this screen.

I have been searching for info also on trying to downgrade from 3.1
Her 16g 3G is acting very strange since the update. Ive heard others have had isues with theirs aslo.

Maybe its Windows

I am going to guess that maybe because I am using a PC/Windows Vista, that I am having a hard time doing the downgrade & then the Jailbreak.

I can get the Jailbreak program to install on my iPhone, but then it just sits there. Like the phone is when you first purchase it, I can't get it to activate or get passed iTunes giving me the message to restore.
