I'm trying to get a pulse on whether it's worth it to update to 3.1. I've read all the horror stories on the net about how 3.1 is bricking iPhones and how many people are having issues with their iPhones locking up and having to hard restart them. Furthermore, alot of people are having battery issues with this update. I'm wondering if these issues are being caused by updating your phone ie the official iTunes update. Also, are jailbroken iPhones exhibiting the same behaviours. I'm fairly satisfied with running my 3.0 jailbroken iPhone 3G and don't want to waste time with 3.1 if it's going to be a huge hassle.

I upgraded to 3.1 because I started having battery draining issues with 3.0.1, so I upgraded via pwnage tool to 3.1 and it went flawlessly. Not much exciting about it though. Home Screen organization was cool for about 5 minutes. Applause to Apple because my jailbroken apps show up in iTunes when organizing. Haha.

No issues so far on my 2g. Actually seems to have cleared up the wifi issues I had in 3.0 and made safari more responsive. Although its a little early to tell.

+1

3.1 and jailbrake with Pwnage Tool was no problem, works well, no issues.

If this is consistently the case with most people who are jailbreaking 3.1 then my theory might be correct. The theory is that updating via iTunes with official firmware is causing the issues. Perhaps a fresh restore vis a vis jailbroken firmware is the way to go!

Anyone having issues? Just curious...

I updated my JB Iphone 3g from 3.0 to 3.1 with official firmware as i do not care about unlocking my phone (I am stuck with AT&T :(). I did JB again with no issues with the Pwnage tool and everything is perfect. So no issues here.

Thanks

JB from 3.1 official to 3.1 custom - went perfectly.

Restored from backup and then whacked tomtom onto the phone. Good times.

Restored to Pwned Firmware and had no carrier logo.

Restored to Official Firmware and got my carrier logo back.

DFU then restored to Pwned Firmware and had carrier logo and everything.

I set up as a new phone because I wanted a clean start and I've had no problems. Better battery life so far (probably because I got rid of all the junk :p) and everything is snappy and good. :D

Easy! Worth It!

I had a very easy time jailbreaking from 3.0 to 3.1 using Pwnage. Everything on my phone is SO MUCH FASTER now too! (At the slight decline of battery life, haha)

I did mine last night w/ pwnage tool. I haven't had any problems. you just have to upgrade your firmware to 3.1 threw iTunes first then run it.

I jailbreaked last night and have had none of the common issues *knocks-on-wood*. The JBing was easier than ever, didn't get a single iTunes error! :)

Enjoy!

does JB 3.1 run any more quickly than JB3.0/3.01? My 3G ran soooo slowly on the 3.0 JB, so I am hesitant to waste time re-doing my phone and then realise its slow again... :/ any insight'd be awesome :D

It all deppends on what you install on your phone AFTER it's jailbroken.

The phone only has limited RAM and processing resources. If you install lots of things that are always running on your jailbroken phone, it's going to run very slowly. If you don't, then it'll be as quick as if it wasn't jailbroken.

The process of jailbreaking does NOTHING to the speed of the phone by it self. It only allows the user to slow their phone down. :D
