Hello everyone,

Just got a Mac Pro 3.1 as a gift. I have an MSI R9 270 graphics card from an old Windows build that I was hoping to drop into my new Mac to replace the stock ATI 2600XT. All the videos on the internet I have watched show people just dropping the cards in, and they work. However, when I dropped mine in, I can hear the fans spinning up, but there is no display output. I verified the card is still functional on a Windows test bench. When the Mac boots with the ATI 2600XT in slot 2, About My Mac detects that there is a card in slot one, but it just says "Display", without giving any model info. What did I do wrong? Are their drivers to install to make the card work? How can i get my card up and running?

Specs at time of posting:
Mac Pro 3.1 (Early 2008)
OS X El Capitan
2.8GHZ Quad Core Xeon
8GB RAM
MSI R9 270
ATI 2600XT
240GB Kingston A400 SSD
x3 500GB SATA HDD (Software RAID 0)
Blackmagic decklink card

Keep in mind, I am an experienced system builder, and server network manager, but this is my literal first time ever touching a Mac.

R9 270 doesn't natively work in osx
