Tldr - 710 in a 3,1 work??

So, I have an 08 3,1 pro tower I'd like to sell.

My wife's older one has ati 2600 which I've used to get the latest os installed thanks to the custom installer out there (very cool!).

Problem is, since all this swapping of parts, and one dead GPU floating around, I need to put *something* in this one to sell it.

I'm looking at the GeForce 710, as I had a 430 that seemed to work before high Sierra came along. Will the 710 work in this tower??

Should I just sell it without a GPU and let whoever buys put their own in and fight that battle? I'd rather put in the most basic card possible with no extra power connectors, doesn't cost much, so that I can make a tiny bit of cash from the beast, and somebody out there will hopefully want the machine for some good basic use and then upgrade the GPU a little if they want to do something more.

Any non-Apple graphics card won't offer a boot screen, which might be an issue with your potential buyer. If you sell without a GPU, you may not get as much for the MP. If you're hoping to maximize your dollars, I'd say install something, but it might be best to get an Apple-issued graphics card so the buyer gets a boot screen. Look on eBay for "Apple 8800GT" or GT120. They shouldn't be too terribly expensive, depending on what your threshold is.

I get the boot screen issue. Suppose that a buyer would expect that.

The GT120 looks a little pricey for what it is, but I suppose that's how such things go.

After a little more reading, I'm thinking it'll be cheaper to get an xt1900 for the older tower still hanging around.

Thank you for the info!

Yeah, any Apple-issued card is more expensive because of their relative rarity. Take the Radeon 5770. A used Mac version is over $100, while the everyday version can be had for half the price. It's possible to flash the BIOS on a non-Apple card, but that isn't always foolproof.

True, and I don't want to mess with flashing at the moment. Just noted your username... ...Arms wide... Thanks again for the replies!
