I hope I don't get everyone into a tizzy here.

I noticed something weird. So Im sure many of you know how iTunes looks for new updates it has a date set and if that day comes it sets it for one week ahead.

Well mine has changed without me doing anything and it moved itself to an interesting date, which is the rumored date of the Snow Leopard coming out the 28th

I uploaded a pic so you know it happened ;)

It checks automatically once a week to see if a new version is available.

It doesn't mean that 3.1 (or anything) is coming out on that date.

Ok I guess it was wishful thinking.

Oh well a mod can close this up if needed.

hahahhaaha. yeah it definitely is on a timed check for updates list.

if you have software update checking for updates once a week, it doesn't mean that it will have an update every week.

Maybe your right...

I plugged in my iPod touch 2G and synced it, and I'm running 3.1 Beta 3, but iTunes will check for an update on the 28th too. I will try this with my Original iPhone later tonight or tomorrow morning

The date your phone will check for new software does not mean anything. It's just a date that your particular installation of iTunes will check on its own to see if there's an update, in case one was released and you didn't manually do a check. This is mainly a built-in process for people who (believe it or not) don't visit forums like these and don't keep tabs of when the new software is coming out. But iTunes doesn't have any prior information from Apple about when 3.1 or any other piece of software, is coming out.

"iTunes will automatically check for an update again on xx/xx/xxxx" line seems to confuse/excite too many people. Apple, ditch it?

I experienced the same thing with 3.0. Although when mine was available to update the GM was released that day so in a way I was right.

It's called a coincidence :p

Nah, I kid, I kid, I'd say the same as you if it happened to me :)

yep

most people don't notice the Date check until they are excited about a future update. somebody was bound to do it op. 1 or 2 week of Sept is still the best guess when they do the fall announcements.
