3.1 unlocking and push notifications

I am about to use pwnage 3.1 to update to os3.1. I am only doing this for ultrasn0w as my carrier is vodafone (official carrier is o2) so I know I must NOT update the baseband.

However, I still have my working o2 sim card, so if I activate with that and switch to vodafone afterwards, I'll keep push notifications.

In pwnage tool, in expert mode, under general, there's a tickbox for "activate the phone". If I untick that will the baseband be updated and lock me out? If I untick it will the baseband be left alone, but I'll activate as normal then switch sim?

Un-tick the 'Activate the phone' box. I did and all was well. I am also on Vodafone and activated with a legit O2 SIM after JB

Sweet, have updated, 3.1 firmware and the old baseband. Just doing the restore before installing yellowsn0w

fellow UK user here, I am looking to update and unlock for use with Orange, so I run pwnagetool and then do I choose update in iTunes?

and whats the difference in yellowsn0w and ulltrasn0w?

kinda my first time with an iPhone ever so it's just a bit new 3.0.1 unlock was easy and straight forward as there was no baseband update, but with this I'm a little more cautious cause of baseband changed and that I've never had to use pwnagetool with an iPhone before

Yes, all works fine doing that.

I don't know what the difference between yellow and ultrasnow is, all I know is ultra snow worked, yellow snow did not.

push works fine for me, tried with googlemail as an exchange server and give or take a few seconds I get a notification that i have email

Yellowsn0w is for use on 2.2.x while Ultrasn0w is for use on 3.0/3.0.1 and 3.1 with the 3.0/3.0.1 baseband

Ooh, I bought an iPhone 3GS as an O2 PAYG. I've since Jailbroken and unlocked it (running on Orange). I like the idea of having Push notifications.

Is it just as simple as popping my O2 PAYG SIM card back in a running the pwnage tool and hitting the activate button (I've not used the tool before - just ran Redsn0w off my desktop)?

Or maybe having a 3GS put ***** out of reach for me (just like the JB to 3.1 currently is)?

Pwnage Tool isn't compatible with the 3Gs. Only the 3.0 version of redsn0w.
